Subscription doesn't work for me... I am not doing paid work and music is a hobby. I'll soon be going traveling for a few months. During that time, a subscription would mean I was still paying during a period I am not even using the software.
And in the case of NI, I don't even have most of Komplete installed. I upgrade on sale every 2-3 years. I have control of when I pay money. Right now, the burden is on NI to offer me something I want. Subscription puts the burden on me cause I have to pay every month regardless of whether they offer me something I want. NI is relieved of the necessity of satisfying my interests.
As it is, the user can control their use to cost ratio. I don't use Komplete all that much, so the infrequent upgrade on sale satisfactorily matches how much use I make of it. Subscription takes that choice out of my hands.
