yes...

Subscription doesn't work for me... I am not doing paid work and music is a hobby. I'll soon be going traveling for a few months. During that time, a subscription would mean I was still paying during a period I am not even using the software.

what if the sub was able to be cancelled on such occasions? and worked out cheaper than a yearly upgrade?

I am not currently required to pay the yearly upgrade to keep using the software. If there is nothing in the yearly upgrade I need, no need to purchase. Subscription takes that choice away from me.

was just interested, never really put much thought in to subs, none of the companies i use software from have gone that route, yet.

ill have to wait till it's happening and get details before i can say for sure.
rent to own does sound like a better option, but again as i said earlier, probably not as great a deal for those of us who own the products already

No. I love my Slate sub. It's a fair price and if you paid for it for 10 years it wouldn't be enough to buy all the stuff I use. Plus, they keep adding stuff and I use it a lot.

Sub hate is just messed up.

Can you explain exactly what you like about subscription models? In my opinion, subscriptions are OK for media-based services (like Netflix), but totally unacceptable for software. With software, the customer is always going to lost in the long run.

With Netflix, you never know what next-months rent includes,
and the content is not getting better, while the price increases
by a large percentage periodically. If for example, you rented Komplete Basic,
there won't be a shortlist of removed content every month. And you won't
be burdened searching through new mediocre releases
wasting your time every month.

Pricing is the key, netflix went from monthly $12 to $16
Try bumping Massive X from $199 to $249, after removing features,
and adding shoddy extras...

Companies move towards subscription when they start having a hard time getting money from users (products are mature for example). So the company implements subscription because they believe it will get more money from users... so that means less money in the users pockets! Companies might market some supposed advantage but the basic point of taking away choice from people for company benefit is clear. It is kinda like a government telling citizens that taking away civil liberties is for the own safety

Please stop this trending, you see people have a distorted perception of things due to this and even thinking about subscriptions as a more "viable" solution for the future; companies and corporations love this procedures so to make us more and more dependent on them, this need to stop.

they (devs) say in the eula that you are purchasing a licence to use the software

of course, a licence is no good without the software, so you get that too

... but you dont own the actual software (code etc)

Yes, you're right (Anx?). Because you don't own the software but you own the product, that's why I said ones have to respect the terms and conditions; there is not dependency like with the subscription paying over and over again without ever getting anything.

Rent to own is a good option of course.

That is why you can enable Netflix 1 month out of 3 and binge watch the useful stuff... then wait a few months and do it again. Good way to keep the cost down!
