Fleer wrote: Wed Sep 25, 2019 7:27 pm Is that the Claire Oboe? I like the Claire Alto Flute.
Claire Oboe Virtuoso is $38 and 8dioboe is $8

Both "produced by Colin O’Malley". Comments from vi-control.net:

"The Clarinet and Flute especially sound great (not so much the oboe). But as others mentioned they really aren't as useful for ensemble writing or (in my experience) super nimble fast legato passages."

"Referring to the main topic: I have 8DiOboe, but seldom used it. Even dismissed it from further testing in comparison with other products."

"I've also got 8diOboe, but I'd caution you against judging their entire range of solo wind products from that one. 8diOboe came out before the Claire series (and was kind of supplanted by the Claire Oboe). My understanding is that it was the prototype for their solo winds, and the lessons learned from how that one was built went into an improved construction for the Claire series."

IDK, I like the tone of 8dioboe and I think I only have Kontakt Factory and Collective oboes so far. But I really like runs and trills....

I'm sure VSL didn't put this out to sell dongles. I'm pretty sure developers makes products like that as teasers hoping you will buy their products(In the case of VSL their products are in the higher price range. Selling dongle is not how they make their money). Or they made this as a thank you to their user base knowing it would fill a gap.

Personally, i hope they make more of those. For free if possible. :D
It's more that i HATE usb dongles, so they made me buy something i hate, which was (and still is) the only reason i don't own any VSL software.

I think they might actually also be ”selling” the dongles with the freebie - not because they get money for the dongles, but once you have the dongle, their libraries are suddenly easier to buy. What a cunning plan!

While you're at it, will you also be selling the upgrade from session? :D

I'm thinking the slowness might be something to do with the fact that download of that pack can only be done via the UVI portal so I guess people are downloading that - and then downloading the product.

It is a nice freebie. Fun to play with.
Yea i looked at it again after my post and realized it was better than i 1st thought.

This is my basic question, is the freebie worth the cost of buying the dongle? Conversely (for me in the US), is this library worth $37 for the dongle and delivery fee?
37$ for the dongle is a bit steep. You do realize you can use any eLicenser, right? No need to order their Vienna key and get it shipped from Austria.

About the library: Amazing sound, reminds me straight of the huge Skyfall arrangement (the Adele Bond song), but offers a little few velocity layers. E.g. it's hard to get from "no horns" to "middle loud" horns before you reach "super loud horns". Still, it's a lot of fun to play with a full orchestra, especially if you add octaves! :hihi:

The Vienna key is on sale at Sweetwater for $16.

Or you can buy a Steinberg elicenser for $27.99 from Amazon, Sweetwater, Guitar Center, etc...

Same thing I believe. I use a Steinberg one because it came with my original copy of Cubase.

I'm going to have to disagree with the consensus. I can see why VSL gave away Big Bang Orchestra for free. It's just not the best sounding room they recorded in and the articulations are too few for film scoring types. The library might be okay for other types of music. I think they decided they couldn't sell it for the prices they typically ask for and concluded it has some value as a freebie. But it's not as impressive as other freebies from Performance Samples and Red Room Audio.

And add to that the need to have the Vienna key. And further, the website was pathetically slow. Not at all interested in such a freebie even if it was of a greater quality.

Who knows that might be true.

I really don't understand why people would say it doesn't sound good. I'm sure glade i downloaded it now.
What ever!

Post

I guess people are not aware of VSL's policy of a lost or damaged dongle when it comes to replacing licenses. That should steer many away from putting a lot of $$$ in VSL.
