i finally bit the bullet on Typewriter Audio X, from JRR Shop.
It is immediately blacklisted from Cubase and Live.
Their own website states that the plugin is compatible with my OS and DAW, but without a demo available how do we know?
Adding Typewriter Audio to the bottom of the list :(

double checking now, their website is offline... wow, my timing is superb

This is the problem with freeware... Putting a price tag on anything will make it seem more valuable to us. When something is free or cheap, we reason that there must be something wrong with it.

Spitfire Audio's Labs instruments are top notch if anyone is after a good freebie with no dongle required (as Phil Collins meant to say).

Downloaded way back - used one time, don´t like at all. Its residue, in my opinion, don´t want to fill my disk with that kind of stuff. The more I´v been in this business, the more I tend to lean to the aproach "rather little, but high quality, unique".

I agree with Harry HH, tried them and found them half baked for my needs. Someone else may find a treasure in there but Id say better buy something substantial that you'll use rather than mish mash bits

If you downloaded the Spitfire LABS way back (when they were made for Kontakt and priced £3 each for charity) you may want to try them again as freebies with their own engine. Some of them are pretty, pretty good. But surely not as good as their upcoming BBC Symphonic Orchestra. That one promises to be pretty awesome when it gets launched in a few weeks from now.

Speaking of Spitfire LABS, seems they won't be releasing a free LABS this month? Should have been today right? Like Project Sam?

BBC Symphonic Orchestra is the most impressive Sampled Orch. I've heard.
What ever!

Maybe we’ll see a BBCSO Labs version :tu:

You read my mind. :D

I still use the Kontakt version of the Labs. Mostly because I'm not quite sure where the other version is. I guess I have to look for the Spitfire player in my instrument listing. That said, the felt piano is really usable as an effects piano. Soft and noisy, but cool. Most of the other ones I haven't really found a use for yet. But then, I don't do trailer music and just learning to do a modified classical.

They actually kind of remind me of some of Soundiron's things. I don't think I've used the Bucket Bass or whatever it is called. Cool idea, but no use found yet.

Still hanging on to my Kontakt LABS too. Love that Felt piano.

Each LABS instrument now installs as a separate instrument available through a common LABS application (kind of like NI's Native Access or Arturia Software Center) and a VST.
You can trial and remove each instrument at your leisure or reinstall later if you decide you may have a use for it. I have 400Mb/s download speed from my ISP and about 6TB of SSD storage in my PC so I didn't consider the problems associated with obtaining free things you aren't using immediately.

Hi Uncle E - do the Reason 11 upgrades that say for ANY version mean they can be used to upgrade for Lite?

Post

And I quite like Spitfire’s dedicated engine application. Its GUI is made by UsTwo, the people behind that beautiful Monument Valley game for iOS.

While I can't speak for Uncle E, there is a separate "Upgrade from Intro/Lite" product

Initially Sweetwater had a statement "buy Reason 10 Intro now and get a free upgrade to Reason 11" so I contacted PropellerHead and the response was "this information is incorrect and misleading so I've reported it to our USA sales manager - it looks like someone's copied the wrong description from the sales sheet."

So I'm "guessing" the answer is no.
