As always, you put the time on the x-axis, and here, the amount of things you learn in the y-axis.
Its not an actual X-Y curve. Its an analogy; steep slopes are harder to climb.
An idiot on Set Theory:

An other climber... :hihi: Sorry, this is really endearing, no evil intentions.
The metaphora must be invented in the USA.

sircuit wrote: Sat Oct 12, 2019 10:21 am A steep learning curve is a curve that is harder to climb. Is not the one from the XY graphs which no matter how you draw it (concave/convex), at the end all shapes take up the same time interval (thus making the concept of steep and gentle slope irrelevant).
What an intellectual reply.
So, the explanation is "harder to climb". :ud: Climb what? Yes, the curve. But the point is, of course, WHAT is the curve, which I tried to explain above.
Climb a steep mountain vs a gentle hill man. You can see which is more difficult.

I have no idea what the f**k you're talking about. Basic research on your part would confirm 'steep curve = slower' is the common usage by native English speakers.

Yes, exactly, that's what I mean. Someone, sometime in the past has made a goof, and since that, everyone (or most of) have blindly followed that. And have afterwards found a "rational" explanation for this. It really is "common". :tu:

:dog:
And what has this to do with Falcon ?

We need words to describe things, you know.
Pointing out silly semantics, helps us all. :D

That's a fundamental misunderstanding of how language evolves, and a flawed post-rationalisation all of its own. Ergo equally "common."

As fundamental is the misunderstanding, that the language evolves just in one way. It has several paths. You don't know, nor me, how that expression was born. If you do, I'm most interested reading about your sources.
So far, my point is relevant.

Strawman. I didnt make any such claim.
You don't know, nor me, how that expression was born.
I know you don't. Even though you specifically claimed to...

"Someone, sometime in the past has made a goof, and since that, everyone (or most of) have blindly followed that"
Hell, you even claim to know where it was born.

Hypocrite much?
So far, my point is relevant.
What point? The one where you don't understand the meaning of a phrase, or the one where you falsely claim to know how the meaning of the phrase became established?

Word and phrases semantics...

What fun.

May I offer another word

He’s trolling. Should’ve seen it earlier.
