Seriously, don't waste your money on a DM. There are a ton of free synths that can create 80s sounds (even if not directly emulations of certain synths)
learn a bit more about synthesis and music making in general before splashing out. You may find yourself just as limited on the DM if you're not really sure what you are doing.
You will need some kind of keyboard if to do computer recording anyway. DM is well equipped with aftertouch keyboard and all you need. To get a midi keyboard that has that - you are almost up there moneywise anyway.
And having DM will also allow one press of a button and sit and play and fool around a bit. Also making sounds is much more fun and accessible in DM than with mouse in computer.
I think a DM will be very wise investment. Even DM6 is well suited for the job - I love the compact size of it.
