Looking for a cheap, but good, audio interface.

Oof, ok.
Also, I just asked my dad, he thinks the speakers I have are USB, so that would mean I need new, audio-jack speakers, right?

Ok, this is surprisingthecontrolcentre wrote: Thu Oct 31, 2019 2:45 pmThe only person I know who bought a DM bought it for exactly that reason. He loves that it has lots of presets. hey, here is an advice, watch these just for general understanding and a bit thought for food to get an overview about what is what and why you need things you need and things you dont need. As said before, just some food for thought.Fox_GAMING_NTF wrote: Thu Oct 31, 2019 12:01 am Sorry, this may come across as a stupid question, but, for something like the Behringer UMC202HD, for Stereo TRS inputs, would you plug the L line into Input 1, and the R Line into Input 2?
I'm still somewhat confused as to where I would plug in the synthesizer into.
Maybe I really don't need 2 TRS Inputs, I don't know.
But, from what I have heard *Both literally, and, what I have heard online*, Stereo is wwaayy better than Mono, so, obviously, I would want to use Stereo for the synth.
What I can tell, it seems like some of the Audio Interfaces I've seen don't even seem to have any Stereo Inputs, some with just Stereo Outputs, so would that mean that they can only do mono? And where/ with what would I plug the Audio Inputs into my computer And my speakers with? A USB for my computer, I'm guessing, but how would I connect up my speakers? Do I even need to buy nice speakers? I already have some Speakers, I'm pretty sure they aren't for music making specifically, but they do sound (at least I think), at least, somewhat nice when I've used some of the VST's I have, and songs, and whatnot, through them.
I know I'll need some headphones, though, as my current headphones are USB, and USB only, and they aren't music-specific headphones (they still sound nice though), and the Behringer Deepmind 12 doesn't have any standard USB slots, so I'll need something with a jack, and it would be nice to have proper music headphones.

It don't matter where you live, but what world region will you be buying from? Good advice might vary depending on whether you are buying in Asia, USA, EU, S. America, Africa, whatever.Fox_GAMING_NTF wrote: Fri Nov 01, 2019 10:26 am Also, I just asked my dad, he thinks the speakers I have are USB, so that would mean I need new, audio-jack speakers, right?
Also some roughly realistic budget-- Hey we were all kids and know the routine. What is the max total money for your project which you might realistically in the next year wangle out of parents and doting aunts and uncles and grandparents, etc? This would help in trying to suggest options which are more practical than mere window shopping daydreams. It dont matter how "good quality for the price" that some suggested set of monitor speakers might be, if you just can't afford em right now.
A zillion years ago when I was a teen, my relatives were nice enough but only good for maybe a fiver in a greeting card on birthday and holidays. Old Dad would buy whatever I really needed but he thought that buying me rock'n'roll gear was a real bad idea. So I had to wait til age 16 and work all summer out in the hot sun as a carpenter's helper, then spend every cent of the summer earnings to buy my first shiny cheezy transistor combo organ cash on the barrel.
Luckily music gear is on-average less expensive nowadays than back then, at least in some parts of the world.
Depending on buying region and budget, I would try to suggest a pair of keyboard amps which would also work fine as monitors if you don't have money to buy both keyboard amps and monitors. Even if they are only little 8 inch or 10 inch keyboard amps. Or a small stereo PA system. Pawn shops can be your friend if your area has pawn shops.
The reason I say keyboard amps-- Some people will say (truthfully) "Keyboard amps are not high-fidelity enough to use for recording monitoring" but on the other hand low-priced monitor speakers are (IMO) not very high fidelity either. If in the future you get a wild hair and want to go play in public at school or elsewhere, if you have keyboard amps you can do at least small gigs even if you only have small amps. But it is less certain that a set of cheep monitors would be loud enough to do the job, and most monitor speakers are not built roadworthy. They are not expected to be carried out to gigs.
So you can use some small keyboard amps as monitors but you probably can't tote out some small monitors in public and use them for keyboard amps.
Something "kinda related" along that line-- One low budget possibility for "pretty good" monitor speakers is haunt all the pawn shops (or your relatives' attics) and find some really great old HIFI Tuner and big nice pair of stereo speakers from 1970 or 1980. Sometimes they are way overpriced and sometimes I've seen em for less than $100. If you get lucky might find something that has lots better fidelity than a brand new $200 pair of bottom-of-the-line budget monitors.
HOWEVER (getting back to the keyboard amp angle)-- I had in the past some great-sounding home stereo systems that would get loud and clean playing a full-mix song thru them. But if I plugged a piano into the system, where you don't have lots of notes at lots of frequencies like a mixed song, but only a few notes at a few frequencies playing that piano-- I could barely even get "livingroom volume" clean playback out of the deluxe stereo speakers. The same speaker that could do an orchestra or rock band loud and clean, just gave it up and sputtered out nasty distortion if you tried to get decent playback level playing a three-note chord on a rhodes piano.
A lot of the inexpensive monitor speakers are just glorified hifi speakers and you may experience the same thing-- You might be able to mix pretty good on em, but if you just want to turn up a little and just jam solo on your keyboard the speaker might give it up and distort like mad. It was built to play lots of notes clean and loud, not to play one or two notes clean and loud.
But if you get any halfway decent keyboard amp or small stereo PA-- Sure you can't turn up a small system as loud as a big system, but unless the thing is broken or bad-built, it is DESIGNED to get at least reasonably loud playing only one instrument playing only a few notes. Nobody would buy them if they couldn't do that trick. That trick is what they are for!
So a pair of small keyboard amps or a small stereo PA (if you can afford it) might be a better buy than about the same money on a pair of brand-new powered monitor speakers. But a pawn shop or Uncle's old Yamaha or Sony Receiver driving some old JBL or AR stereo speakers would be purt kewl if you can find the right thing for the right price.

USB speakers are just "special purpose" audio interface. Output-only (most likely unless it has mic inputs). Mostly an audio interface hard-wired to speakers, unless they have headphone output jack. In that case you could say it is an audio interface with built-in speaker and "in the ballpark of line-level stereo output".
You can PROBABLY run ASIO4ALL and drive them in ASIO mode from DAW programs. Just "quasi-educated guessing".

Also, im thinking of, possibly, instead of getting an Audio Interface, of getting a Mixer.

Getting decent audio interface and good monitors like Dynaudio or Genelecs would be a wise decision. Do that instead of getting deep mind and a mixer (you dont need a mixer now).Fox_GAMING_NTF wrote: Sat Nov 02, 2019 2:39 am Also, im thinking of, possibly, instead of getting an Audio Interface, of getting a Mixer.
Look kid you will be doing music now and not in the future. Dont be silly and dont start from the backward end.
Think this most crucial thing in music making is listening, critical listening. Who will give you more benefit to achieve that:
1. mixer with deep mind and audio interface will help you to do that?
2. decent audio interface with medium-high range of monitor speakers (700-1200eu) a pair?
Again check those videos i posted before doing decisions. Because it does look like you do them without rational thinking or really understanding why with facts but rather just by making your own theories assumptions and expectations. Be wise or foolish not stupid

We still haven't heard any hint of the budget scale or what market the money will be spent in.
Dynaudio is utter fantasy if the total budget for EVERYTHING turns out to be a fraction of just the price of HALF of a dynaudio pair.

- a mike - yeah, get a Neumann
- a preamp - yeah, get a neve
When starting off - you don't even need monitors - phones will be fine.
When you've done enough mixes and getting tired of that it does not sound that good in various devices - then you can worry about monitors or better phones. Having to redo mixes a dozen times before getting there - then you want monitors, or a little bit earlier to remain sane.
A hardware synth like DM is way to go - and some audio interface from a brand that maintain their drivers.
There is endless fun in exploring a synth - as well as having a keyboard to use with computer for free. Ability to play without starting up computers and software as first level to even start playing a bit.
Mouseclicking fest is not what anybody want from a musical interest.
