Camel-era Alchemy samples loading into MSF…YES!

Just spent a lovely afternoon importing my previously forgotten and ignored Alchemy samples and sfz instruments into MSF, including All the factory and 3rd-party collections I’d bought, plus a bunch purchased and AFAIK still available from Patchpool…WOW! What a great platform for all these!

I’d been doing this with Falcon with almost equally great success when it occurred to me to try MSF, too; they actually load more easily and with fewer issues than into Falcon:)

Anyway, just a heads-up for anyone else who’s maybe also got some of these and forgotten about them, too, and a huge thanks to Vojtech for finally giving in on sfz importing, and doing it so well—HAPPY Day:)

I don't have alchemy, but that's great. The new sampler opens up a lot of new possibilities as well as giving new life to older sounds.

So, they're out of business. Does that mean you can share the samples? Maybe make some MSF instruments with them?

Does EULA still apply after the company fails?

Actually, a brief search and second thought reveal that copyright probably applies and might as well be forever in this case. Still an interesting question, though.

I´m also a user of the "forgotten" Alchemy Samples. These are the only Samples I use in my productions (95% Synthesis, 5% Samples). I´m not a big fan of Vengeance, Cymatics and Kontakt etc.. These Samples are already processed. I never used Alchemy itself, but when I tried it, I saw that the sample-collection is a very complete one and is also not strongly processed. Exactly what I need for Sound-Design.

My Alchemy Sample Library isn´t complete though... I deleted Bass and Guitar. (BTW I only have the Stock Sample-Folders) And I don´t own Logic to copy them over again..

I see it that way: Apple bought Camel Audio and has the rights to Alchemy now. And Alchemy has the same Sample Categories in Logic as in the old Alchemy (from screenshot)... therefore they offer the same samples. and I don´t think that Apple will ever check for copyright infringement from their stock samples. So I think you´re good to go to use them in Games, Songs, Film, etc.

But I don´t think it´s a good idea to sell the Samples as MSF instruments or include them in MSF Stock Instruments. But I guess you could freely share them with everyone who owns Logic...

Camel Audio was bought by Apple. That doesn't mean they're out of business, it means they're subsumed into a much, much bigger one; a much more legally aggressive one.

Does that mean you can share the samples?

No.

In fact, its never been the case that you can share anything by a company just because the company no longer exists. That's not how copyright works.

Also, many of Camel Audio's libraries were made by third party independent sound designers; depending on their agreement with CA, they might be the ones who hold the copyright.

I buy ALL the software so don´t get me wrong... but when it comes to samples I never found a RAW Good Sample Pack worth buying. I rarley use Samples, most of the time i only use Drum-Maschine Hits and Vocal Snippets... so I just use this "forgotten" Sample-Pack.

well, yeah, I was talking in the context of someone who had them legitimately. if you've got them in breach of copyright, using them is in breach of copyright.

I've got a pile of Alchemy libraries as well ... previously forgotten and ignored here too. I'm glad you posted this as a reminder of this possibility.

Alchemy (RIP) was an enigma. I was in love with it for it's technical depth (and it had the best documentation of any synth I've ever owned), but I never found it all that compelling with respect to the musical value of the sounds it could produce. While I'm still deeply annoyed about it being retired for all us non-Mac folks, I actually don't really miss it all that much.

Maybe I missed it but I looked on the Melda website and could not find info on the supported sample formats MSF can utilize, which IMO is a bit weird.
Can any MSF users elaborate?
