MVintage Rotary Recording Fast/Slow

I'm using the demo version of MVintage Rotary to see if I want to buy. I'm playing a vintage Hammond A100 through a line out into a FocusRite Scarlett 2i4 and into MacBook Pro and some studio monitors. Everything sounds great in the monitors, and even recording sounds good (GarageBand is my host). However, the fast/slow rotary effect does not record changes. Whatever state it is in when I press record is the state it stays in, despite my changing the speed during the recording. Could this be a limitation of the demo? Thanks!

You just need to record the automation in your DAW. Usually this will be a separate button or setting from normal recording. I don't know what DAW you're using, but normally it's easy to do.

Garageband is my DAW. I'll see if I can see an automation record button.

I've figured out how to turn on automation in GarageBand (Mix > Turn on Automation) but will this allow live control of rotor speed of my plugin, or just post-production control of rotor speed on an already-recorded track? I suppose I will find out tomorrow when the house is quiet and I can test. Thanks for you reply, Chandler.

No problem. Just turn on "automation record" and whatever you play live will be recorded and when you play it back the slow/fast will function just as you played it. Even better, you can go back and edit things, so if you hit it on accident while, playing you can easily change it later.

Well I did some research and apparently Garageband only supports "offline" automation and not "online" so I guess I will have to invest in a DAW that supports automation recording. I have a membership with Adobe Creative Cloud so I have access to Audition but I'm not sure Audition is a dedicated DAW as Logic would be. Thanks for your help.

Well, I got MVintage Rotary working in Adobe Audition and it works fine monitoring. The FAST/SLOW button in the effect UI works greats and I've got my single button Apple "puck" mouse mounted where it is easy for my left hand to get to. But recording is buggy and I'm losing patience. I'm a beginner with Audition and that's the problem, so I don't expect any sympathy. But with recording the keyframes of the effect in either Write, Latch or Touch mode, I get latency issues. The FAST/SLOW button works okay for the first two or so clicks, but then just stops working. I've adjusted the I/O Buffer size both up and down in the Audio Hardware tab to no avail. I'm going to give it the weekend to research and see if I can solve this, and if not, I'm going the more standard route of buying a rotary effects stomp box to avoid having the computer get involved in effects management. I have a 2012 MacBook Pro, so not exactly the newest processor.

That sounds like a bug in Audition (it's not the best choice sadly). Just tried in Reaper, no problems. Anyways make sure you have the newest version of the plugin (13.06).
