Fills were an entirely different matter - I always came out of them too early, and as I tried to adjust they were just sloppy.
As one of my friends once said to me, "what happened there then - did you throw the drumkit down the stairs?"

Tosser.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

I have had one half a cup of coffee in my life...I did drink pepsi or coke for decades and that was either two 2 liter bottles a day or 10-12 cans a day but I kicked 'fein in 2010. FTR in 1993 I kicked a cocaine habit (yes, indeed it has now been over a quarter century clean :D ) caffeine was more brutal to kick. The headaches were horrid but the end reluts were worth it
6. Foot tapping while playing, but don’t become dependent on it.
does anyone actually think about this? Not being a jerk, it's just that that is a reflex for me...I even find myself tapping my feet while listening to a ten second ad jingle on the idiot box (tv)
I know musicians who don’t.

yeah - my teacher calls the metronome, "the devil"
but he has a point in that part of every practice session should include picking against/with a metronome tick
and then always practice with a drum machine of some kind

Here's a thing about metronomes. They sound..TICK, tock, TICK, tock. Worse still electronic ones always sound TICK, tock, tock, tock. Always emphasis on the one. Basic drum patterns are usually Kick, snare, Kick, snare. Metronomes work against popular music by basis that we are used to hearing the low sounding kick on one and three, while the higher sounding snare hits on two and four. Metronomes give weight to the one which is fine for most classical music but not so fine for pop/rock/country/etc/etc. Hard on the one may work for James Brown stuff not so much for everything else.

You really don't want a full ensemble when you are practicing alone. They tend to muffle your performance into the background.

My last teacher would always be polite when he noticed my timing slipping. He would simply tell me that I might consider using one more often. It would be enough for me to work more on my timing, knowing that he wasn't about to let anything slide and neither should I.

Mostly I struggle with pick-up notes or "lead ins" When the first note is on the and of four even with a click track.
