Uncle E, any BF sale for Tokyo Dawn Labs' plugins?

Decided Scaler was cheap enough now to buy even though I can't demo the updated version. It's interesting, but its scale detection still drastically underweights the tonic and treats likely accidentals as scale notes. For example, midi notes C Bb G B G, with the B note significantly shorter than the others and the G notes significantly longer, gets top suggestions "C Lydian #6" and "C Lydian #2 #6". The next highest ranked suggestions are "A# Super-Locrian Diminished bb3 scale", "A# Locrian Diminished bb3 scale", and "A# Locrian Diminished bb3". After that, the suggestions are "B Double Harmonic Major scale", "B Neapolotian Minor Scale", and "B Persian scale"---making the accidental the tonic! Then finally it suggests a scale with G as the tonic---but it's "G Ionian Augmented #2", which assumes an augmented fifth (D#) for no apparent reason.

OTOH its list of matching chords from unusual scales provides some interesting suggestions, for example C7(sus2 b5) and C7(sus2)#11.

Do you think the Scaler product is a complement to Steinberg/Cubase Chord Assissant tools or it kind of does the similar thing. (Haven't really demoed Scaler yet!)

Just sharing my views: Scaler, while it can do many things, is really useful to come up with chord progressions. I consider it as a tool on which I can spend some time to just create and listen to various chord progressions, whether I create them myself or combine them with the suggested ones. Once I have a solid progression, I can commit to it and then proceed further with the instrument selection. I am not into advanced music theory and complicated chord structure, so what Scaler offers to me is more than sufficient. I think it's well worth $29. With version 2 coming soon, it's a no-brainer. I did not realize before buying how useful it is.

I strongly recommend that you demo it.

So you basically flip a switch and Scalar creates different chord progression for you or you use it to try out different ideas for chords within the key and scale you are working in? The way I use Cubase tools is I already know the key and progression I am working with. I then flip to chord assistant and try to see how it would sound with augmented and suspended variations of those chords.

No, as far as I have understood with little time I have spent so far. Based on the chords you play through your MIDI keyboard, it detects them, the scale/key and suggests variations of it that you can try out in the chord builder. It also has a great library of chord sets from famous songwriters, which you can use as a starting point. Again, I am new to Scaler. I like it because I felt it will be a helpful tool for me as far as chord progressions is concerned.

I was thinking about the Wave Frame expansion - but I am over budget so I'll probably wait until next year's sale. I already have Emulation II, Dark Light and The Beast so it's just a nice to have at this point.

Hmmm, same here too. I am over budget too, especially after the XO purchase (XO does not go on sale often, so had to bite on it.) I agree that it's better to wait. I also got some UVI sample libraries this month, which have some great stuff to keep me busy for a long time.

Yes, I strongly feel so about Synth Anthology 2. I don't think Vintage Vault 2 will go 40% off on its own, and is overkill in my opinion (it's $349 for me right now, 41% off, with Digital Synsations in my account; can be further less if you own some more individual products). I will wait for a February 2020 sale (or best if someone trades it for my Soundtoys stuff). If does not happen, no worries. Less money spent.

Anyone who has first hand experience with the UVI software (except Falcon!) , any VSTs you recommend for someone who is into weirder non-pop non-mainstream sounds? So far I have their Digital Sensations 1 and am quite impressed with the software product -- both usability, ease of install, integration as well as sounds quality.

Asking because I'm about to buy MPS3 for $335 (Crossgrade from elements) so not sure $335 is a great deal if it can be had for $175.

The current price for the 'MPS3 crossgrade from any paid product' is the cheapest I've seen it for someone with an Elements license. I went through all the previous sales they've had, and I couldn't find a lower price. The upgrade coming from an Advanced license was cheaper, but it's a different upgrade.

If you're looking for FX as well as instruments, then I recommend Relayer, IMO one of (or the) best-in-class for creative delay units.
