12th track from my upcoming CD "Chroma"
For those who want to hear me rap over lo-fi hip hop. Please note, song is a parody and not to be taken seriously. Those of you who are seriously into this genre, sorry if you're offended.
Mashed Potatoes
Makin' a meal one that I like
Everything's gotta be just right
Take out a bowl to throw it all in
If I leave out one thing you know it's a sin
Too many cooks spoil the meat
Maybe I should just go and cook my feet
No one will notice the toes in the bowl
If they do then I'll just toss them in a hole
It's almost done now my favorite dish
You can have some if you make a wish
Bet you can't guess what's on my plate
Bet you can't guess what I just ate
Well I'm gonna tell you if you're real good
I'd like to share some if I could
But this is all mine for me alone
Cause I'm just like a dog with a bone
Mashed potatoes
Mashed potatoes
Mashed potatoes
Mashed potatoes
They taste real good with turkey and ham
My name is Sam, Sam I am
Join me next time for my favorite food
You might just get some if you're not rude
So goodbye for now hope you had fun
Sorry my friend but I gotta run
Need to get some more of this treat
And no I don't mean my stinky feet
Mashed potatoes
Mashed potatoes
Mashed potatoes
Mashed potatoes
(Some add lib nonsense)

Hehe, good stuff. I like that one (and I also love mash too..). Good to hear you let rip on the old piano a bit there. Almost as much a more nervous sounding Lou Reed type vocal than rapping, so it makes it a bit different and unique.

Thanks guys. I actually had a blast doing that one contrary to my expectations doing a genre that, quite honestly, didn't really like much. I developed a new appreciation for it today, though I doubt I'll ever try doing a "serious" tune in the style.

Thanks Vurt. This could have been a total train wreck but so far, everybody liked it except my wife who said it was way out there, or something to that effect.vurt wrote: Wed Nov 27, 2019 10:39 pm on the phone, so no comments on mix.

But what you could do is use elements of the same style, and the techniques, with the intensity of the lof-fi effects probably dialed down a bit. I bet if you used some of these as a backdrop for some of your more 'ballad-y' type of piano stuff, and kept it quite sparse, then that would be the basis of a good trip-hop style thing. Mix and match!wagtunes wrote: Wed Nov 27, 2019 8:28 pm Thanks guys. I actually had a blast doing that one contrary to my expectations doing a genre that, quite honestly, didn't really like much. That's not a bad idea DT. I'll give it some thought and see what I come up with.donkey tugger wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2019 6:38 amBut what you could do is use elements of the same style, and the techniques, with the intensity of the lof-fi effects probably dialed down a bit. Seems you can turn your hand to anything, enjoyed this Wags. Nicely balanced mix and I love the pitch fluctuations on the aahs. Good work!

I think that comes from having been introduced to numerous styles of music growing up instead of just one or two things. My mom was a concert pianist and opera singer so she had me listening to symphonies, concertos and opera along with show tunes. My best friend who was a lot older than me was into top 40 radio going all the way back to the late 50s. So he introduced me to everything from The Beatles to The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown. And then FM hit in our area and I started listening to all the underground stuff.jethrobull wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2019 5:05 pm Seems you can turn your hand to anything, enjoyed this Wags. Add to that having gone to college and getting a music degree so that I'd at least have a snow ball's chance of knowing what the hell I was doing and having to analyze just about every piece of music imaginable, I quickly began to get really good at "parroting" numerous genres simply by falling back on music theory.
The only missing piece was actually getting the recordings to sound good and/or authentic for the genre. That's where I was seriously lacking until I finally took me head out from my ass, listened to some of the very talented and knowledgeable people here, and went and learned what I needed to learn about music production.
While I still have a long way to go, I've also come a long way.
In short, making music now, after 42 years of it, is more fun than ever.

Well it's certainly paying off now it seems. You're not scared of trying new things, everything is improving and you're having fun!wagtunes wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2019 5:52 pmI think that comes from having been introduced to numerous styles of music growing up instead of just one or two things. There was no one in college to fall in love with. Yuck. Met my wife in my last year of college in a bowling alley.vurt wrote: Thu Nov 28, 2019 5:59 pm i spent my time at college trying hard not to fall in love with a girl called louise, she would wear a tutu and white wellies with a big jumper, just did her own thing. the world could go to hell.

when i say fall in love though, wasnt a sexual thing, was just she was so self confident and like i said, out there but didn't care what others thought. just one of those people who you are glad to have known at some point

13th track from my upcoming CD "Chroma"
This one derived from "Thank You For Being A Friend" by Andrew Gold
Thank You For All That You've Done
Thank you for all that you've done
Got me singing out in the sun
The war against the enemy's won
Thank you for all that you've done
I was so sad and lonely
Until you came into my life
Took me by the hand and held me
Then you became my wife
Repeat Chorus
Made me a home that was loving
Never let me feel alone
Promised me to be there always
Oh how our love has grown
Instrumental Break
I can't believe my life now
It feels just like a dream come true
And you know I still remember
How it all started with you
Repeat Chorus 2x
