Quite a lot of foley stuff in my collection as well, for example. I think I'd have very good use for one of them smart sample browsers and so I'd like to pick one up during Black Friday, but I'm not sure which one: Atlas, Sononym or XO. I don't really have time now to play with the demos and explore, so I thought I'd watch videos and ask instead. If you've compared them, which one would you pick over the others, and why? Or would you say they complement each other more than anything?
My understanding is that Atlas and XO are focused on drums only. XO comes with a sequencer and some additional ways to edit the sounds but it is limited to 8 pads/samples per instance when Atlas can play up to 64 pads (Push/Launchpad). Atlas is supposed to get the sequencer and some other cool functionality in the 1.5 update. However, the update has been delayed because the devs wanted to increase the scope during the development.Kalamata Kid wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2019 2:17 am ^^^
would also love some opinions on this subject
Little research I did shows Sononym to be the better choice.

With hindsight I'd have a different set of tools than I have but that's part of the learning curve.fairlyclose wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2019 2:27 amyep I just bought it - still haven't got the dlownload links. I went through all my gong style instruments and there is nothing that will give me the Trinity scope. I might end up sellling some sample libraries as a result - wil have to see how it goes. So that is it for BF instruments for me this year, and there really is very little I dont have now, either FX or soundwise. There will be some trimming and selling off as I really want to limit what I have and explore that with little overlap. Sadly a lot of manufacturers are a bit unfriendly with resales, but I have them all marked in my file system now so I dont buy anything from them again
I do have a bunch of stuff with zero resale value also, but that's the way it goes.
The multiple videos used exactly the same footage in places and glossed over certain things.fairlyclose wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2019 2:27 am(I checked out the superball one - it's good but I can do a lot of that with other libraires or stacking sounds - One of the issues with gestural libraries is that you end up with that set of gestures - which is great, but still limited in a way that can be frustrating)
I'd really like to have heard the Solo Patches but they ignored those.
Plus the gated stuff was dreary as gated stuff often is.
I've seen some 8Dio videos where almost everything seems to be gated!
They might as well gate the presenter's voice and be done with it.

Very good info! Thanks! Looks like Sononym is the best choice for me. Pads and sequencer are not the most important features, but very useful if the program can index other sounds than drums only.SirKen wrote: My understanding is that Atlas and XO are focused on drums only. Just FYI, Sononym does not come with a VST plugin.pekadan wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2019 3:01 amVery good info! Thanks! Looks like Sononym is the best choice for me. for sure, I am not going to beat myself up too much about it - just try and sell what I can - and I can say I have learnt to be more concerned with getting the most out of what I haveagharta wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2019 2:51 am

that's another good lesson- be a lot more careful and analytic with the demo videos. Some company videos are a bit too much in the slick misleading ad categoryagharta wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2019 2:51 am The multiple videos used exactly the same footage in places and glossed over certain things.

SAME!samsam wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2019 2:40 am Izoptope advice please:
I own MPS 2.1, the last one before Neutron 3 (and then Ozone 9) was released.
Upgrade to V3 is 299 full price, Izo will give further 20% off taking it to 239. Any better deals around than that? Or any better deals likely to occur?
Izotope - love the products. Hate the marketing and bundling/re-bundling/re-re-bundling.

P.s. where are you seeing this extra 20% off?

On my phone and can't type in detail, but I compared Atlas and XO. After spending some time I realized XO was more intuitive and had more useful features. The features of XO far outweigh its price.pekadan wrote: Sat Nov 30, 2019 2:09 am I have quite a large collection of one-shot samples, very many of them are drum sounds, but not all. And man, the number and quality of samples that come with XO are phenomenal. If you are on the fence, they should take you over.
I am not disrespecting Atlas, it's great. But maybe version 2.0 will be something to look out for.
I think I typed in some detail.

All those samples in weird nooks of my hard drive might stand a chance of actually being used now!
