Well, I do get the gist of how it's supposed to work...
But what do I use it for?
I know that it's something special. And I vaguely understand midi CC's.
But...what are those? (meaning midi CC's) Why do they exist?
Just in case this isn't yet clear, MIDI CC (means Continuous Control) messages are to be assigned to parameters in other devices, usually via a MIDI Learn function. So, they're usually created by or sent from LFOs or Step Sequencers, or devices with both and much more, like this Melda CC-sending device, that can apply modulation to whatever controls will accept them, in any device, as an alternative to assigning such controls to knobs and sliders on your MIDI hardware, the more common application of MIDI Learn, I guess… HTH.

Well, yeah…but give him a while; most things come to Melda fans who can wait:)

And I don’t think there's any point in loading the AU version of MCCGen anywhere; plain vanilla AUs just don't output MIDI, no matter what…grrrr>Apple.
Yes, I wish Apple had gone the easier route and not created two (or three) different types of AU. I believe the AUv3 spec does allow for some kind of MIDI i/o in the regular plugins but nobody's gone there yet (and it's not what I'm asking Vojtech to do).

I'm with you—EVERY MIDI FX should come with an AU MIDI FX version.

Despite Apple's weird AU decision, with AU MIDI FX, Logic is certainly one of the most MIDI-capable DAWs around.

I'm afraid no time for that sorry Rob. After all, even if I would do that (and that would be quite ugly probably, guessing game as usual), Apple will change/break it at some point. Better to stick with something that works, even if not fully for the AU minority. Sadly that just the sideeffect of choosing Logic.

I know it's a hard pill to swallow initially, but once you submit and purchase Patchwork or Bidule, Logic and MIDI will no longer be strangers. You can easily use ANY VST with MIDI Out as a MIDI FX, including MSF. Or MDrummer.
And ESP> (BoomBoomBoom!) Kontakt.

And all inside the Logic MIDI FX rack.

I waffled and complained and resisted for well over a year after learning of Patchwork (easier to learn than Bidule, which is much more powerful), but instantly regretted the time wasted once I saw what having it meant I could now explore.

That's actually quite something this plugin, going by the description (haven't tried it yet). The beauty of it is that it's such a simple idea while the creative benefits can be enormous.

And all the video tutorials are already there.

Cheers.

This is such a simple yet fantastic addition to the lineup... cheers!

In Ableton, the only way I can see to send MIDI data from the plugin to external MIDI, since it is an audio effect, is to add it to one MIDI track, then on a different MIDI track set the MIDI In to the MCCGenerator track and the MIDI Out to external.

Just wondering if anyone has a better way to send from MCCG to external MIDI in Ableton... appreciate any ideas.

I asked Ableton tech support about this when I first got access to the MCCGen plugin. The person who replied and began fielding my numerous questions wound up writing an article on the topic, so this is quite current:

OK. It would probably be best to remove the AU version from the installer because at the moment it has no functionality.

Can't help pointing out that companies such as Xfer Records, Sugar Bytes, Blue Cat, HY-Plugins, Native Instruments, Plogue, Hornet, WA Production, Audiaire etc.. are able to create AU MFX. (Admittedly, Some of them will be JUCE based, which makes it easier for them).

Sounds good. I can't justify the extra spending at the moment but at least there's a viable option.

Good article, thanks

Anyone able to get this working in Bitwig?

Post

Very quick try. Using a '3rd party' synth. Get the CC for the parameter, with Icarus, hover the mouse. Set MCCGenerator to same. There it goes. Bitwig 2.4.3. Very cool by the way.

Done under Linux, Xubuntu 18.04, wine-staging, linvst :scared:

I also posted a question in the Bitwig forum.

How can I add additional CC´s? Is there a limitation in the CC panel that allows only 8 or do I handle this with the A-H presets selector?
Its over for Bitwig--CUBASE WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post

You can have 8 banks (A-H) with 8 different CCs each. But only one bank at a time, so basically the answer is: Yes, 8 CCs only.

Thanks. That´s what I thought. Damned, why this extreme limitation? This little tool could be revolutionary..
