Simple! Derivative is just a diffrrence from the previous sample and 2nd order is the same thing, just with derivatives ;)

A Derivative, like the "source" function/audio file (e.g. sin, cos, triangle, saw, drum-sample, whatever audio file...), is just a mathematical function.
A Derivative describes the steepness of the slope at any given point of the "source" function/audio file.
Therefore the result is a continious function which shows the differences (slope).

What happens to the "source" function you ask? For example take a exponential function (parabola) this will become just a linear slope in the graph, because the slope throughout the parabola is always the same and therefore a linear slope is the result (long story short, in a Derivative the Exponet of 2 is reduced to 1...) That also means a function with the highest Exponet of 3 would become the Exponent of 2 and so on...)

And a Derivative of a Derivative (this is what 2nd order means) describes the steepness of the slope from the 1st Derivative ---> the slope-steepness of the steepness of the slope from a function/audio file. :lol: (That means for example the Exponent of 3 will become an Exponent of 1)

To be clear... I didn´t played with this yet... hopefully I`m not completly wrong... (not a dev... was just a little math nerd way back in school... :ud: ).

I'm well aware of what the derivative is. I was simply trying to understand how it functioned in discrete time vs continuous. In continuous it's solved for by taking the differential limit as the delta goes to zero. In discrete it makes sense that the derivative is the sample difference, seeing as how to closest you can get to "instantaneous" rate of change is the rate of change between two samples a.k.a dx~approximate.

My confusion was thinking about formulae and not discrete samples. Much how integrals in continuous time are analogous to sums in discrete time.

All fascinating topics, but this is a product forum, not a math lecture. Back to the topic of how AWESOME v14 is! The new neon rework is much better on the eyes, and I'm spoiled by the ever increasing power of MSF and MXXX. Thank you Vojtech!

It's the same engine as it exists in almost all MPlugins like Mpowersynth which you know quite good. That said: you can't do that - though you might help yourself using CC7 or CC11.

MIDI input is used to remote control MCC's engine and params.
