Hi everybody, I should say, I nerds :)
This thread is about the math module and how you use it.

Ok, I start,
1 : control signal modulation : Normally, I use it with a set module, a dc, connected to the math module input.
Sometimes, 2 set modules, one for the input, the second for the math side chain input.
I modulated the DC value with some midi cc,like pressure and send the math module to a custom generator. Works great with the modulo and others goodies. Sometimes, I need a lag between the math and the custom generator, a filter or an eq does the job.
2 : control audio signal.
Second option, I use it to simply invert a signal or create some vosim. We could use it to create some transform function like we find into the awesome oscillator but it will create aliasing.

I'm more interested by the first option, I think, it's a great tool for controlling modulation signal.
I have some difficulty understanding all the possibilities, like how I could translate a zero crossing math module to a gate.

And you, how do you use it ?

I'm not good at maths anymore and I'm always cooking my head off something like that. I would also be happy if we could go deeper, mybe a nice tutorial? Chandler? :)

Post

I honestly don't use it much. Perhaps I'll do a video on it in the future, but no promises.

Post

Haha no tutorials please Chandler :D. If you don't feel the need for Math, then you don't need it ;).

That's the point. My feeling is that the plugins are so versatile that it is not necessary. Unlike Fl-Studios Patcher, where I have to set Fruity Formula Controller before each module to adjust the modulation behavior. With Melda i just draw a curve for everything :).

However, i would be interested to know if you can get a value for "acceleration" with it. If i move a parameter faster, the value becomes higher, if not so fast, lower. For a kind of scratch, for example (only that it modulates volume instead of pitch).

Post

I would also love to see or read some use case scenarios. On the other hand this module is contradictory if you consider Melda´s randomization engine and purpose.
Its over for Bitwig--CUBASE WON !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post

Well, take any operation:
multiply - custom ring modulation, or multiply a signal with envelope
*+-.. with constant - any kind of processing of envelopes
sin - create custom generators/waveshapers...

etc. :)
Note that using this will be faster than using expressions in Utility or graphs.

Ehm, Nerd here from Nerdistan ...
I have built a little patch with some Math and Delay/Feedback modules ... Check out the FX Tab.
Please try to play some lower notes, I have setup my keyboard to -2 octaves and play at the lower to mid side...
What can you do with it? I think currently all math modules are set to "Add" - Just try different algorithms. What I found works is for instance "Subtract", "Add", "Divide" ... other algorithms actually don't work, they make the sound go away ... not sure whether this is my fault...
Anyway have fun fiddling with this patch...

The algorithms do work, but they often need specific inputs. Think about divide - you need the sidechain to be reasonable, because 0 in the sidechain means input / 0, which is, well, infinity :). Etc. As I said, it's nerdy :)
