Can the DATA ENTRY slider on the MIDI controller be assigned to VST intrument knobs?

Hi all, first of all I apologize for being new to the forum, new to Tracktion and new to VST instruments.

With this strong background I'd like to ask something that maybe trivial to you but could not find the answer by googling: I have Tracktion 7 and I'm playing with a VST synth (in particular TAL-Elek7ro v2.7) and I was wondering if my controller (Alesis Q49) DATA ENTRY slider (or any other Q49 slider) can be assigned to the synth knobs (for instance the filter cutoff freq.), so that tuning the synth parameters is much easier.
