Notes falling out of pitch?

Hey Urs,

So my girlfriend's been using Zebra with Cubase LE 1.0.7. And she tells me that Zebra keeps falling out of tune. The first thing I think is that she's playing with the patch parameters and prolly set some wicked modulation or actually moved one of the "tune" knobs. After checking it myself and ruling this out, I decided to do a test:

I launched Cubase LE and created just one MIDI track and sent in four notes (C3) nothing else and looped it. I used the simplest factory prest on Zebra (Factory V1.0 - CrystalRain - Sine). At first I got what I expected, four C3's playing in a very monotonous march. BUT, after a few minutes (like 5), the pitch indeed started to change, not in a detuning way, I mean *whole* notes, it started to sort of arpeggiate the notes. So my four C3's turned into something like C3, E3, E3, G3. Truly bizarre behavior.

I have not confirmed this behavior with Cubase SX 2.x or not.

Is this normal or a "feature" ;)

Thanks,

In "unregistered" mode Zebra plays "CEBA" after a period of time. It's to allow people enough time to get the gist of it, but then hopefully buy it. If you've registered already it seems like it's stuck in demo mode for some reason.

Silly me! Damn, I feel a bit sheepish. Yeah, I installed it on the GF's iBook and failed to enter the reg code... Thanks for your help... :)

in fact, I also had nearly an hour troubleshooting one day, when, connected with an update or system change, my authorisation was gone and had to be renewed; zebra didn't tell me it was unauthorized (well, on the settings page), no nag screen or such, so I was checking everything before I happened to discover the reason.

maybe you can put a bigger "unregistered" sign on the zebra, urs?...

Yes, I will make it bigger with next versions

Zebra *had* a nag screen during beta testing but it was the source of many crashes, so once I left it away it never came back

Fortunately, I have a new framework for the graphics which gives me more freedom for handling visual feedback of that kind :)

Btw. a system update should not overwrite the authorization file - it's in your user folder. Well, if you kill your user folder while updating, it *will* be overwritten, of course...

Cheers,

Now that you say it, possibly it was when I started to run it on my new G5
