I just purchased Zebra 2 and HZ. So many people recommend "The Unfinished" sounds. I am fairly new to virtual instruments, Logic and only have a little experience with Alchemy. I'm a retired hobbiest composing hybrid music with synth/orchestra. I do have a musical background… music education and French horn player. I have no plans to become a sound designer but may tinker under Zebra's hood from time to time as I learn some of the inner workings.
I have no interest in EDM, flashy leads synths, off-the-wall creepy sounds, or lots of simulated orchestral instruments since I use the real thing there. (virtual instruments) What I am looking for is soundscapes with movement, ambient pads with movement and/or rhythmic... even some added synth percussion that I can augment with virtual instruments. I guess I’m mostly looking for underlying sounds that can be used as added color to virtual instrument strings, brass, woodwinds, percussion, as used in standard orchestration.
The Unfinished is such a prolific designer… what libraries would you recommend?
Thanks

I own several of the Unfinished’s Zebra libraries. I am especially partial to Nordsund Blood and Gold (dark versions), Serenity, and Vellum. Valis with the Unfinished and Luftrum is very nice.
The Unfinished’s libraries have demo patches and preset walkthroughs. Give those a try to see what fits best to what you are looking for.
On u-he’s site, Zebra Science and Traveller are my favorites.

+1 Matt(Unfinished) and Howard(U-he’s
resident genius sound designer) are 2 of the best. You might also want to check out Luftrum he also makes some beautiful musical patches.
Listen to walkthroughs,demos etc.......
fwiw I think Howard designed a lot or most of the content in Zebra and DZ so you have
great patches from the start.

FYI... I emailed The Unfinished. Matt responded quickly with recommendations. I purchased the HZ versions of Minima Deluxe, Vellum and Nordrum Gold. With the factory patches, I now have over 2,000 Zebra and ZebraHZ sounds available... plenty to keep me busy for a while!
