Overtone Series in Bazille

Im writing a track using Bazille and want to play a melody line by controlling one of the oscillators pitch while in 'overtone' mode. When in overtone mode turning the dial from say 0 through 24 moves the pitch discretely through the harmonic series; but when I control the pitch with one of the maps etc I don't seem able to move through the series discretely. I wondering what kind of patching/settings would be involved such that if I sent a value of 2 from the sequencer to the pitch modulation it would correspond to position 2 on the pitch dial. I know I can represent correct pitch intervals to hit particular harmonics in the sequencer, but I'ld like to be able to say quantize a ramp lfo to 24 values and pass through series discretely.

Im not sure if that makes sense. But in the unlikely event it does, can anyone help?

See attachment. Use mod wheel to sweep through the harmonics in this simple template.

Quantisation turns the mod wheel signal into steps of equal height, and relative FM turns these into notes of the harmonic series. With the Quantizer set to 24.00 and the FM amount at 240%, the wheel sweeps through 25 harmonics. The quantisation and FM modulation depths should match: For instance, if you set them to 5.00 / 50%, you would get the first 6 harmonics.

BTW the name is wrong. Should be "24 Overtones" or "25 Harmonics" :dog:

thank you, Howard, for this clever trick: you should publish a book with all those excellent tips!

It will happen. :D

I wonder what would be a good name for such a book.
you want to make it catchy and get people's attention.
like say.. Bazille cookbook?
:)

I want to read Howard's book too.
I have Welsh's Synthesizer Cookbooks, which is a good primer on synthesis rudiments. Although, I'd also like to have a practical guide to a particular synth(s). From the sound of it, I think that's what Howard is writing, correct?

Oooh... great idea and name. I will start immediately! Should be finished within a few months ;-)

Howard, do you have other books? If so, where might I find them? Thanks.

Well, I found Howard's website. It appears one such book is within the Zebra Science soundset. It also appears that I have that soundset--with said book ... Hah! Maybe I should do my music hobby for a change and discover more things like this. :hihi:

1) IIRC "Zebra Science" doesn't include a book, but just a couple of pages info.
2) Many moons ago (2002) I wrote a tutorial for the Access Virus, and later a simpler one for the V-Synth:

ah! the virus book!
what a treat!

curious if the impOSCar set ist still working with v2...

fyi, the only one, that doesn't work ist:
28 HS sounds for V-Synth version 1 from v-synth.com

the others are still fine

thank you so much for your wonderful sound design!

Right, to a say a book isn't correct. It does have 20 sections though and it's more informative than anything I've ever gotten in a soundset before.

I think I remember Virus. I seem to recall a rack unit too?

Btw, I also really like your patches, Howard.

afaik the original(s) A/B were 4U desktop/rack units
there war also a 1U version aka "virus rack" (sic)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Access_Virus

later on various desktop/keyboard variations
there even was a TDM (?) (motorola DSP hosts) plugin IIRC
