Assuming you have not changed anything at the MP level in the new version, it's pretty easy. If you have, you're out of luck. By "changed anything", I mean added or deleted MPs. Changing a default value, for example, is probably OK. Adding a new target for an MP is also probably OK. But the MPs must be in the same order in old and new.
Track down where your device files are (I'm not at my DAW and don't remember exactly). Save your new version of the device. The copy the old .presets file which will have the same name as the old device. In other words, ABC.minstrument will have a device presets file named ABC.presets. If your new device is XYZ.minstrument, name the copied file XYZ.presets.
Again, I'm not at my DAW, so this is from memory. The file extensions might be named a little bit differently.

Yup, clear on not changing any MPs:)
So, including the d-presets HAS to be a separate step (or 2: Export, then Import, which also worked)?
There's no way to package everything from one device into a copy with a new name, with some single choice from the Designer Menu dropdown options?

Not that I know of. Same approach as above, though. Just copy the minstrument file and rename it (ABC.minstrument becomes XYZ.minstrument).
