You're right. Another interesting free tool is Six Band Spreader by CIS DSP Factory. It seems abandoned by the developers, but it can still be downloaded and is working here on my Mac. http://www.vst4free.com/free_vst.php?pl ... er&id=1746

Multiband distortions can be used as exciters. They work the same way, just apply the distortion more lightly. So you’d be able to factor Fabfilter Saturn into that as well as iZotope Trash.
There is also Waves Vitamin that is a bit of a different beast, it does the multiband thing stereo widening thing, but it also does this saturation cross compression cross eq type thing. It’s design purpose is certainly for enhancing the audio as well. Definitely worth auditioning for your purpose.

the only non-multiband exciter i use is voxengo warmifier. everything else is too intrusive for my taste.simon.a.billington wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 11:39 am Multiband distortions can be used as exciters. Tastes are a wonderfully personal thing. If we never had different tastes, music would sound all the same.Ploki wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 4:03 pmthe only non-multiband exciter i use is voxengo warmifier. everything else is too intrusive for my taste.simon.a.billington wrote: ↑Fri Feb 07, 2020 11:39 am Multiband distortions can be used as exciters.
