"Relative" endless encoders with u-he synths in Logic?

I've always blamed the crappy knobs on my Arturia keyboard for never getting this to work, but revisiting this I realize I have no idea how this works. I'm looking at a couple of endless encoder boxes: the MIDI Fighter Twister and the upcoming Faderfox EC4. Can something like this be set up to make relative (non-jumping) changes to parameters in u-he synths? I'm on latest version of Logic Pro X. Thanks for any help!

Yes, in MIDI learn panel you have two encoder modes you can choose from.

I can't seem to find that choice in the interface or in the manual...?

Press the cog button in top right corner, then the second out of three buttons. That's the MIDI map page.

It's all in the manuals, under "Configuration" section ;)

I had tried all the settings in that MIDI Table page, even though I don’t see anything called absolute/relative (the terms I’m used to).

Is one of these settings for “relative” knob behavior?

Mode: Specifies the range and/or resolution of values.
Normal .................full range, continuous
Integer ..................full range, whole numbers only
Fine ...................0.01 steps between the integers closest to the current value

Type: Specifies the type of hardware (by far the most common is Continuous 7-bit).
Encoder 127 ..............unipolar encoder
Encoder 64 ................bipolar encoder
Continuous 7-bit ........7-bit MIDI CC (normal resolution, very common)
Continuous 14-bit ......14-bit MIDI CC (high resolution, less common)

I’m wondering if anyone has made this work, and what settings they used. Cheers...!

You would use Encoder modes if your MIDI controller has encoders, obviously. Continuous modes are absolute, encoder modes are relative.

These are all the modes there are. If they don't work with your MIDI controller, not much can be done I don't think.

u-he offers such a big compatibility choice, that I cannot imagine there are controllers that won't work with u-he plugins.

One exception: if your controller/keyboard sends NRPN instead of CC, then it won't work directly with u-he plugins. (The DSI keyboards can be configured to send either NRPN or CC, for example.)

If you fill the MIDI table directly (not via MIDI learn), you could make a mistake by choosing the wrong MIDI channel. (And speaking of MIDI channels, channel 1 is technically channel 0, channel 16 is technically channel 15 and so on - this could also lead to confusion if your controller "counts differently".)
So I would recommend to use MIDI learn first, then edit that entry in the MIDI table if you have a special encoder.

Hi. I've got a faderfox EC4 that I've mapped to control the cc parameters inside of U-He DIVA. This works fine except that I get no midi feedback to the EC4 (e.g. if I switch between instances of DIVA the CC value is not updated on the EC4 and so I get parameter jumps). Is there a way to fix this?
