and ftr vurt has a talent of using his sense of humor to deflect negative comments and indeed help get derailed threads back on topic...speaking of which

I prefer the sound of RePro-1. I couldn't tell you why but it's just that little bit better to my ears. To be fair, I don't really use either all that much, I've got so many great sounding synths, I never think of them. The problem with emulations is that they are a lot more limited than proper softsynths.
My bandmate has a Sub37, so far it hasn't impressed me and it cost him twice as much as my Analog Four cost me. It's months now since I switched any of my hardware on, I can never find enough time, everything is so much quicker and easier ITB.
Absolutely. I said it reminds me of that patch but it's because they both do a convincing job of sounding like real strings.
Seriously, get NOVO Essentials. It's awesome.Personally, I don't need a violin, but I am after the sound of an entire string section, which sounds magical to me
What difference does it make what you think of Kontakt? It's just a shell to run a third-party instrument in. Once you select and load what you want to use, you don't have to deal with Kontakt itself any further.Sure, there are great samples out there, but I hate and thus don't use Kontakt, nor do I want to spend extra money when I already have a synth.
As for "I already have a synth", if you have more than one then that is a bullshit argument, pure and simple. But if you look at it from a financial point of view, it takes me two hours to earn what I paid for NOVO Essentials, which gives me dozens of great presets and allows me to do things you will never be able to do with S1 or any other V/A synth, how many hours have you devoted to just one S1 patch?
Yes, with other people, usually their friends, having a great time. it's called a "life" and maybe you should look into getting one? Honestly, that's a very sad perspective you have there.I simply like the challenge, other people spend hours in pubs or football arenas...
Best sounding for what? Does it do good Neuro bass?
Neither do I, which is why I don't go there by myself, I take a group of people with me who I want to socialise with. That's how it works.
I'm pretty sure I'd rather socialise with the type of "dirty bastards" you're thinking of than the sad losers in that picture who, for the record, are exactly the type of people I would have to put up with at my local if I went in alone.
You should probably move to a nicer area with a better class of people.

Let's imaging we have the Universal database of plugins (let's say at least the Earth ones). If we query the best sounding one without specifying the genre (just simply best sounding), we'll get Repro

Lucky I didn't buy it to impress people ....
I think you missed the reference ... it's a line from an old UK comedy show

Are you sure? Because the way it looks is, I think, probably it's biggest attraction. But when it comes to sound, I don't hear anything in it that sounds better than any of a dozen softsynths we use. And only having an LP filter is very restrictive. I notice my local dealer has dropped the price $500 so I can't imagine they are shifting them easily.

Nah, no Novo Essentials for me. Apart from not liking Kontakt, I am just an amateur, spending 120 bucks on strings alone would be total overkill since I don't make orchestral music, anyway.BONES wrote: ↑Wed Feb 05, 2020 11:58 pm Absolutely. It is not a bullshit argument because basically I indeed only use one synth, and one Rhodes emulation because that sound is just too complex and peculiar to emulate on a VA synth. Everything else can be emulated in Sylenth1.
All in all I spent about 1 hour on my patch. I think that is kind of normal for sound designers, too.
Today I have added a few velocity modulations, took me 5 minutes
I don't consider it a waste of time, I like what I am doing. It is my hobby. Others spend hours on things like flying kites, biking in the woods, tuning their cars, playing video games, etc. And I make patches, so what?
I do have a life, a hobby does not exclude having a life, else hardly anyone would have a life.
Me and my friends do not go to pubs, there are much more pleasant places such as cafes or the pier.
Nah, I won't move to another country just because it has a different pub culture. There are so many other places, why would I care that pubs/bars suck?
The same goes for the football arenas mentioned. In the US for instance football is a sport for the whole family, here soccer games are often subject to violence and riots among fans. Yet, I won't move somewhere else because I don't care about soccer, anyway.

Neither do I but a nice orchestral arrangement can bolster pretty much any style of music.
So that's it, your entire arsenal is one very ordinary synth and a Rhodes emulation? I can't imagine what unlistenable horrors you make with that.It is not a bullshit argument because basically I indeed only use one synth, and one Rhodes emulation because that sound is just too complex and peculiar to emulate on a VA synth. Everything else can be emulated in Sylenth1.
Do you really want me to get started about "sound designers" again? I doubt I've ever spent more than 10 minutes on a patch, it's just not that hard if you have the right tools. (Sylenth 1 is definitely not the right tool, for the reasons stated previously.)All in all I spent about 1 hour on my patch. I think that is kind of normal for sound designers, too.
To me that's like someone who buys wool, because he loves wool, but never knits anything with it. i.e. It's nothing more than part of a larger process and doesn't really make a lot of sense on its own. Again, "others" fly kites and go cycling with their friends.I don't consider it a waste of time, I like what I am doing. It is my hobby. Others spend hours on things like flying kites, biking in the woods, tuning their cars, playing video games, etc. And I make patches, so what?
I've never been to a café that wasn't full to overflowing with wankers. Honestly, I'd be more likely to go to a cafe with a loaded shotgun than with friends. Sadly, far too many of the same people also go to the pub in the evening.Me and my friends do not go to pubs, there are much more pleasant places such as cafes or the pier.
I was thinking of a different suburb, one with a better class of clientele.Nah, I won't move to another country just because it has a different pub culture.
It's also not the only sport you could go and see. There is cricket and two codes of rugby that attract decent crowds on a regular basis. The same goes for the football arenas mentioned. In the US for instance football is a sport for the whole family, here soccer games are often subject to violence and riots among fans. Yet, I won't move somewhere else because I don't care about soccer, anyway.

Well, that escalated . . . weirdly.
Does it matter what synths (or other gear) other people like, or dislike? Really?
Wasn’t this thread meant to be about the synths we actually use the most in our own music? Never mind, must’ve imagined that . . .
