If I update the survey I'll lose all the votes, I did it to add Linux and it cleared all the vote. Just saying you use multiple OS in the comment section is enough. I use multiple OS myself, but I think most people focus on one to make their life easier.

OK. I use MacOS mostly, but use iOS quite a bit too.

Have used Windows and Linux in the past, but don't have a laptop with either installed right now.

Why, did you have five grand you couldn't be bothered flushing down a toilet? My 5 month old laptop has similar specs to an MB Pro, except it's i7 not i9, and it cost me less than US$1000 brand new, with a full warranty from Dell.

Anyway, I use Windows 10 because I spend all day at work on a MacPro.

Well, for the performance benchmarks I am looking at you are in the 3-4k range regardless if Windows or MacOS. Before the 16 inch MacBook Apple didn’t have a product at that performance level.

That's not even close to true. For a start, nobody pays the sticker price on a PC. If you can't negotiate at least 20% off, you're just letting yourself get ripped off. With my most recent purchase, I got it on sale, more than one-third off the sticker price. I saved even more because I bought a gaming laptop, which means instead of paying an extra $500 for another 1TB of SSD storage, I bought a 1TB SSD from eBay for $80 and put it in myself, without voiding the warranty. More importantly, because I had so many different models from different manufacturers to choose from, I didn't have to spend a penny on any unwanted features. I got exactly the laptop I wanted and down the track I can upgrade the drives (it has two), RAM and processor to keep it running fast and smooth for years to come.

There's a Linux version of Reaper. No need for wine.

That's good to know, I tried getting Wine to run without using the terminal, I can't even find in the Gnome menus. I'm trying the demo on Windows, but been put off with the workflow coming from Studio One.

Can you load Windows VST plugins in the Linux version of Reaper? I know there's Lin2Vst converter, but it seems hit and miss in terms of performance and usability. That's why I preferred using the Windows version in Wine, I can't imagine myself making music without any plugins.

Motion graphics for the largest TV network in Australia. I mostly work in After Effects, with a bit of Cinema 4D now and then. We are moving to new premises later in the year and we'll finally be swapping our MacPros for PCs.

I am currently testing one of the contenders, so I have been on PC for a couple of months now, but it's a loaner so I'll be back on Mac soon enough. The difference isn't as big as I had expected it to be but I can definitely get more done in a day on the PC than I can on a Mac. e.g. It takes me 5-10 minutes every morning to manually reconnect the Mac to all the network drives, something the PC does automatically, and then to open and arrange all the application windows I'll need how I like them, something else that is easier on Windows because it remembers which monitor you opened each application on and which Explorer windows were open when you shut down the previous day (a setting in Options).

Very cool job! I've been trying to learn motion graphics for a while now but never got around finding software I'm 100% satisfied with. I've started with Vegas Pro 14 and move to Blender, DaVinci Fusion and eventually to Hitfilm. I'll probably stick with Hitfilm as it seems the closest to After Effects. DaVinci Fusion is quite good though, but a bit too much for my own needs.

Post

Fusion is serious film stuff. I've been trying to convince my department to move to it for years but, because we're on Mac, we've not been able to. (Fusion has only recently been ported to Mac and, from all reports, it doesn't work very well.) Fusion isn't free for personal use any more, either, which is a bit of a bummer, but at least it has consistent pricing for personal and corporate use, which makes it cheap for my bosses to contemplate as an extra bit of software, rather than a replacement for AE.

After Effects is a pile of krap, it's only the amazing plugin ecosystem that makes it worthwhile. Adobe don't give a damn about it and rarely bother doing anything to improve it. I'd be surprised if they had more than a couple of developers working on it.
