You know, a DAW "engine" doesn't have it's own sound character. If you use the same set of plugins, the result will be the same in all DAWs.
Probably you didn't like the sound of Ableton native plugins, but liked Cubase's, that's possible.

You are right in terms of the sound engine... but besides native plugins, different DAW's have different strengths and lead one to do things in different ways. They may also have different default settings, panning laws, metering settings and so on.

This seems to be a common complaint with Ableton. My guess is that it's something to do with the look and due to shape consciousness, which is a phenomenon that cuts across the entire audio industry, especially among "audiophiles" and boutique vendors. I did my own blind tests early on, because I felt a hint of the same thing. No difference. It's no reason to leave any DAW.

Put another way, they all sound good when you close your eyes.

How they ruined <Vol.2> The Simpler. One of the keystone that had been made ableton being attractive.

Inconsistency

Well, now it's becoming like novation Automap software...

Knobs look like working as redundant GUI.... or not.

Lots of people get amazing results in ableton I know but i just couldnt probably my own engineering skills rather than the software plus cubase just seemed to have a deeper soundstage, or was maybe just more forgiving...

there is no perfect DAW, one can like Ableton Live more than others, but I'm glad this forum has a "mute" button

Stability>creative plugins. I have almost never heard a good thing about Live since they introduced Max.

"Just spent 8 hours today working on a big new project and now Ableton crashes every time I try to open it?"

"Two LFOs on same track = crash"

"Do you experience frequent spontaneous crashes with Ableton Live??"

"Ableton 10 Project won't save anymore, crashes and creates Abletontmp file. can you help me?"

"Constant crashing on Windows 10"

"Ableton 10 - "File could not be opened" error/crash (Windows 10)"

DAW developers have a responsibility for plugins that they developed, not for those made by random dudes.

I think it's down to the plugins and system configuration. Ableton 10 rarely crashes for me but Reaper crashed every session, for some people Reaper never crashes and Ableton always does.

One thing that might help with Max related issues is changing the Max version from bundled to standalone in the settings.
Signatures are so early 2000s.

Factory Max (or not Max) content also can lead to corrupted files or crashes. A few days ago I was watching youtube tutorial on psytrance sound design in Live, and the dude was praying for it not to crash during the saving and loading of project
Still, this is not isolated case (Cubase is known for being unstable for many versions; Fl on Mac is also considered unstable etc).
(I have never experienced a Reaper crash, I think, but I have seen plenty of Live crashes in friends' studios - it is very ironic, because for a program, known for live electronic performances, you usually need stability as number one priority.)

Yeah, they invited a snake into their house. (10's integration) Instead of patching the vulnerable doorway they opened it to make Live deeply accessible. I know there are too many users voices to count requesting stability for decades. I don't know why they went this way. It's strange that it is opposite direction of thing marketed as rock solid software for live usage.
