It's worth noting that there are lots of spring reverb IRs for free out there. Download the free Convology XT and have at 'em. That comes with a few too.

It would be interesting (to me, anyway) to know what kinds of sounds you use spring reverbs on. They're a natural partner for guitar, of course, but what else?

I was surprised to see the Moog Grandmother* had a spring built in, but a little playing around with software springs convinced me that it made sense.

At the more absurd end of the spectrum, I once tried applying spring to fairly dry pipe organ sounds. Once was enough.

^the Arp 2600 has a spring reverb.
I had one i put in the back of one of my modulars, limited range of use for me but occasionally it was fun. Eventually removed it and hauled my Korg digital around.

+1 each for the two PSP spring reverbs.

Outside of guitars, springs can work on synths, organs, electric pianos, vocals and even drums depending on what kind of sound you're going after. If I'm looking for a certain lo-fi or indie vibe, something a bit murky/dark, that's when I'll reach for a spring.

If you do old school reggae, dub, trip-hop or other rhythmic low tempo stuff every snare needs one spring or more. Don't be afraid: There is no such thing as too much reverb. BTW: I like Softubes Spring reverb almost alone for its shake button which gives you the scary sound of clashing springs like a spring tank in an mistreaded AC30

This looks cool, a new spring reverb by GSI.

With EQ or dynamic EQ tools you can mitigate the harshness and really draw out a nice sound from a spring reverb. I was just using soothe 2 to do just that and the resulting reverb sound was still very "spring" but had a nice expensive reverb sound. Working with an analyzer helps so you can identify the peakiness easier. Or just by ear is pretty fun too to better dial-in the sound to the mix.I usually do it by ear first and then check with an analyzer to tweek-out any that I missed.

I was initially disappointed with Eventide Spring however I took a second look and realized the value is in the multi-parameter morphing and automation. The general sound of it is medicore however with the multi-parameter morphing it makes it very unique and useful so bought it.
Yes, one of the main draws of current Eventide software is the morphing and automation capabilities. Seems many people miss that about Eventide and automatically deride their newer plugins.

I always forget this and have to be reminded about it. Happened again with Spring. I demoed it and wasn't impressed but I didnt' play with the automation. Then I clicked on a utube video about it at some point and the guy was messing with the morph. "Of course!" so I fired up the demo and yes, that's the differentiator with these Eventides plugins. I hope I remember the next time around!

For anyone with NI Komplete, don't overlook the spring unit in Guitar Rig. I tend to like that one even more than IRs of springs in a convolution. Of course there's also the spring IRs in Reflektor isnide Guitar Rig as well as the vintage reverb unit witha few springs that sound quite nice as well (though these don't have adjustable lengths).

I use this and couldn't recommend it more:

It's a LOT of springs and since the demo isn't too restrictive, try it and see!
