Wow. i got serious hours in that gorgeous game, Meffy! in fact: ill be playing it when i get home tonite - got a Experimental S-class multitool to chase down; and some nanites to manufacture!

From what i was reading: 69 Days of Static themselves are interested in exploring the bytebeat tool intro'd/implemented in the Beyond update. From what i gather: the music tool involved some hard-core coding - probably state of the art stuff like the rest of No Man's Sky.

lol - its a game that really is gorgeous! The funny thing (and this has served me well) is that its also a 'stuff' game - you grind & gamble (literally load and reload your save file) to get what you want. Plus a non-toxic community overall - we all try to help each other.

i think that it's a perfect fit for us more mature folk - and a logical alt to such brilliant games as the COD franchise and GTAV - more Zen.

*nod* Your opinion lines up with mine quite nicely.

Once thing I enjoy about NMS is that despite being grindy, it's an easy grind for the most part. Once you get the hang of not dying (which isn't all that difficult) things get better.

[eta: Also, most of the really difficult parts have been made considerably more friendly over time; inventory slots carry much bigger stacks of raw materials now, and those rotten sentinel robots have become less ubiquitous… at least on low-hazard worlds.]

If I can figure out how, I'll post coordinates for my farm worlds and you guys can help yourself to the billions of units' worth of agricultural goods I've planted. I've not traveled far (just a few star systems) but have sown great plantations of the big four outdoor farmable plants. My Gamma Root garden was so big that until the recent updates, plants kept popping in and out of existence in waves, making that weird squishy noise the whole time.

A few of options on PC.

There's FRACT OSC - haven't played this one but I remember seeing a bit of hype around the time and thinking it looked cool.

Then you've 2 games the same musician (David Kanaga) was involved in: Proteus and Panoramical. Proteus is a 'sort of' exploration game where different world elements all have different sounds. It's not really a 'musical game', but all the joy is found in creating your own audiovisual experience with it rather than in progression (it's been a long time since I played it, but I remember progression being implemented in a fairly abstract way). My playthrough was about 45 minutes long, though I'm sure you could complete it much faster or savour it much longer.

I haven't played Panoramical, but I gather it's a purely abstract audiovisual experience rather than a traditional game (and Proteus is already stretching the definition of game). You can even play it with a MIDI controller, but you'll need a controller with 18 knobs (or an iPad MIDI solution) to get the best out of it in terms of immediate hands on control. Apparently you can still play with less than 18 inputs though (I guess most people will be playing with keyboard + mouse, so if they can make it work there I'm guessing any MIDI controller will be an improvement).

They're all under £10 at full price AFAIK, though there's also $99 'Pro' version of Panoramical which adds things like OSC support, integration with VJ software, that kind of thing...
