Anyone else getting tired of the bleep bloop, sounds of synthesizers??
Nope, quite the opposite.

Synthesizers can create many unheard sounds, but only a fraction of them actually works in a musical context. For me it's often supersaw lead, plucked analog bass, air pad and a few more... often fall back into safe sounds and comfort zone instead of getting wild and experimenting with weird-ass synth settings.

That's why I love modular synthesis. It's not held back by making XYZ song. Instead, I focus on making whatever sound that comes to mind. Sometimes I'll sit down and just play with synthesis for hours, and not compose a single note.

When it comes to music though, yeah. Synthesis has it's good days and bad days with me. Gotta have variety.

Yup...
I was getting very bored with VSTis...
now every patch is a new instrument...
with real knobs to gently tweak and hear the response. The challenge of then playing this new instrument and where do we go...

Not bored now...

but.. no heating, no eating ... bank manager daily phone calls.

Never thought I'd say it, but I'm getting kind of bored of synthesizers. I still like them, but just maybe need to take a break from them and focus more on sampling and recording.

I'm starting to get more drawn to the sounds of real recorded instruments and samplers.

I've been fairly tired of them for years now, and for the same reasons.

Synths just simply can't match the human touch and expression of acoustic instruments.
This was some 20 years ago the reason why I lost interest in synthesizers. Since 3 years that changed completely because I got a LinnStrument. Since then the world has changed, and I get more musical expression out of synths than of anything else...

Post psych drugs, my appreciation for sound itself seems to have gone downhill. I used to enjoy sound so much more. But I haven’t noticed this being a problem specific to synthesizers.

I love synthesizers in general, I just don’t like the lack of dedicated physical controls. I used to be all in on the touch screens and whatnot, but the longer I use a computer, and the more I’ve tried to use synths with touch screens (including my Korg M3 module which needed me to literally replace the defective touch panel), the more I’ve come to dislike the computerization and menu-diving aspect of all of this stuff.

Pity that there’s no instant recall on analog knobby hardware...

My favorite type of synthesis is physical modeling. I wish there was more work being done on making it intuitive to edit. Graphically modifying instrument components would be way more fun than working with esoteric parameter names alone.

I have an affinity for synth music that mixes in acoustic sources as well. It’s my favorite music. Actually, my favorite is when I struggle to tell if sounds are synthetic or just highly processed acoustic.

I agree with this line of reasoning... I just wish I could afford to risk my extremely limited funds on one of the several MPE controllers currently being marketed...
