Speed up Patchwork switching (plugin preload?)

Sometimes there is a substantial delay when switching patches with VSTs (sometimes up to 10 sec on my i7). If you are recording tracks this is probably acceptable. For live work it seems a bit slow. Some VST hosts have a way of pre-loading plugins for fast switching. I would like to have a list of plugins that are always loaded regardless of patch. Is this possible without adding the plugins to each patch and having them deactivated?

Some plug-ins may indeed be quite long to load - but it's not only the plug-ins themselves, it can be the presets (for example large sample librairies), so it is not practical to pre-load them without knowing which presets you want to use.
The best way to do it in PatchWork is to adjust your presets for fast switching. Most of the tips to switch presets fast in Axiom also apply to Patchwork.
If just pre-loading the plug-ins is enough, you could load them all in a parallel chain that never gets activated, too. It should not impact audio performance much.

Thanks, I've narrowed down the plugins that take a while to load so I'll probably add them to all the presets in the same slots (just bypass as needed).

I guess a "lock" for slots would help too. Maybe we will add this feature in the future - the issue is real estate in the GUI

so, plugins loaded in a parallel chain that's not processing (e.g. if other chain is soloed) do not take up any processing, and switching between chains (e.g. with exclusive solo) is effectively like switching presets?Blue Cat Audio wrote: Tue Feb 18, 2020 4:28 pm If just pre-loading the plug-ins is enough, you could load them all in a parallel chain that never gets activated, too. Unless they are doing special process in background threads, they should not use any CPU, indeed.

OK, that's great, that's what i was looking for. i ended up going for Soundigy MIDI Lab instead of Plug'n'Script as it more closely matched what i wanted to achieve... but you still got me with PatchWork
