i'm not much into casinos and such things, but since it seems it's nonsense time again, a wild tought..... [based on life experience].....

...want to bet the "win/win" freebie open source code would be used to create a new UI, a change here and there and sell someone else years of work for +- 180$ ????? [outside black fridays]........

I guess I’m rather late to the party, but I never actually considered Icarus until now. I like the resynthesis, wavetables, additive, and MPE functionality, so it is tempting. On the other hand, I already have Pigments, Rapid, Avenger, Hive, and so many others. I wonder if I’m really going to get anything new out of yet another monster flagship workstation synth. Just thinking out loud here...

It is definitely worth adding and I have all of the synths you mentioned...

Gotta echo Tony, it is worth it. I also have what you mentioned. Icarus has been great buy for me.

Okay, fine, I’m convinced! :help:

You won't regret it. Fabulous synth!

Where is the announcement that Tone2 will stop developing new synths? Can't find anything on their official site.

It kind of makes sense not to develop any new synths, since the trend seems to be heading towards big "workstation" type synths. Icarus does make a lot of other Tone2 synths redundant now since it has such a huge number of features that overlap to some extend with the others. But it would be nice to see Icarus 3 some day...

Hi,

I have a question regarding the wavetable editor.

So far I can not find a way to audition the selected wave by playing the keyboard. The keyboard always triggers the first wave in the table. I know that we can trigger notes of any selected wave on the right hand side mini keyboard on the GUI but, this makes it impossible to play the sound in realtime and draw curves and hear the changes in sound in real time.

So is it somehow possible to select a wave (in the editor) audition it by playing a physical MIDI keyboard (not the one on the GUI) and then edit the waveform as I play and hear the results in realtime?

Thank you.

Hi, i believe it's not possible yet the way you desire.. i wish it was also possible, however..
i'm sure you already considered other options but the way i worked with icarus to solve that issue on early sound design stages (starting a preset) was..

- set 2 last mod matrix slots to:
in matrix slot x - fixed to OSC wave
matrix slot y - mod wheel [or another controler knob/cc] to matrix slot x ammount

- set OSC fade to Zero
(watch wave form in main page if in doubt)

... you can change afterwards the OSC in matrix slot x to OSC 2 and 3

not what you wanted directly in editor but might help in the process.....
you can then change to editor mode(while tweaking the wavetable) and select with modwheel

There will be no Icarus3. Just free updates and sound-sets for Icarus2 and the other existing products.
I have a question regarding the wavetable editor...
To play a waveform live with the hardware-keyboard:
- Init a new patch
- Set WAVE in the main-screen to the desired waveform
- Set FADE to 0
- Use wavetable-editor to tweak the waveform

or

- Use the blue keyboard in the wavetable-editor to play the current waveform
- Use the black-white keyboard to play the wavetable

Hey,
Thank you for the suggestion. There is a fundamental problem with this, that is, the modulation we have set up in the mod matrix (say we are using the mod wheel) does not show which wave is currently selected when in the Waveform Editor mode. So it's impossible to select a specific wave.

Sure, but this means that I need to close the Editor each time I want to select a wave. Then go back to the Editor page. The idea is to keep the editor open, select a wave of my choosing, and edit it in realtime as I play it on a midi keyboard (one hand play the keyboard, the other edits the wave with a mouse).

And how do I play the waveform and edit it at the same time? Impossible to do here.

We should be able to select a wave in the editor in order to play it on the midi keyboard with one hand, and edit it with the other hand/mouse at the same time, to hear the changes in sound in realtime.

It would be very helpful to have an option in the Waveform Editor, a switch:
'Selected wave to keys'

So, each time a wave is selected in the Editor, it becomes 'live' to play on the midi keyboard. This would act like the wave selection knob on the main GUI, and would temporarily override any modulation assigned to the Wave selection knob (any LFO or envelopes, so that we can hear just the one wave, and not a sweep).

Unfortunately Icarus2 doesn't work properly with FL Studio 20.5 'Switch smart disable for all plugins' option:
- I turned on 'Switch smart disable for all plugins' option
- Icarus stopped generating sound
- I played something
- Icarus starts generating sound and won't stop it even after I stopped playing the song (and wait few minutes)
- You can see it in the screen
- Problem with that is all the effects on Icarus tracks will work all the time after Icarus generator sound was triggered - I don't have very powerful machine, so it's clogging my CPU very quickly
- I've done tests with around 15 differents synths, and only Icarus, Bazz Marda (which isn't fully commercial synth) and Reaktor with Monark (propably it's more tricky with modular synths) have got that problem. Massive, Diva, Thorn, Fathom, MSF etc are working correctly - they are not generating sound when their notes are not hit

If i remember correctly i already explained it in an email to you some weeks ago. Please note that we do not do support here. We got a company forum and an email-support.

It is not Icarus, Bazz Marda and Reaktor which do not work properly. It is FL Studio 20.5. You must refer to Imageline to for a fix. 'Switch smart disable for all plugins' is not a feature of the VST-specification at all.

Sorry, no. What you write here is incorrect. What you see on the display are artefacts of the FFT-transformation in Fabfilter. Icarus does not play a sound. It outputs a small DC to avoid CPU-denormals. The DC is inaudible and has no negative effect on the sound at all. This is not a bug it is a feature. It helps to keep the CPU low.

Best Regards,
Markus
