Wild guess: Choose two points on the surface of the Earth. Draw a line between them, then plot surface height along the line. Use the result as a waveform.

I tried doing this using GPS many years ago, but I live in fairly flat terrain so the waveform hadn't much amplitude.

I was going to say relief map too, although I didn’t make the connection with a wave form.

Actually, what I was aiming for was scanned synthesis*, playing the Earth's surface as if it were a phonograph record without grooves, just contours.

Seemed like a cool idea at the time but the result went kind of like this:

hummm

Oh well. Better minds than mine could make something of it, and most minds are.

[eta] * On third thought I don't think this would have been scanned synthesis.

Could be a take on Mutable Instruments Grids, which is a "topographic" drum sequencer.

So yet another $99 Rack Extension instead of... oh, I don't know? Track folders? Track freezing? MIDI out? High-res GUI? :(

I wonder which will give them a more immediate return for less effort? 8)

That's something like AudioMulch's Metasurface.

Not so fast - track folders in version 12 (paid for), track freezing in version 13 (paid for), MIDI out in version 14 (paid for), Hi-Res GUI in version 15 (paid for).
