Should I upgrade to MSoundFactory?

I use MPowerSynth some, but I primarily work with audio. Still, I use MPS as my only synth and I am curious what the benefit is to upgrade to MSF?

I have reviewed documentation and samples but I can’t exactly see what makes it a better product for one thing or another (you’ll have to excuse me, I’m only a barbaric audio guy, again, just recently even started screwing around with MIDI).

I have all the other Melda Plugs (totalfxbundle) and am insanely satisfied with all things Melda. Just wondering if anyone could help me decide whether to drop some more cash on MSF or if it would not be useful to someone who can’t even tell the difference in that and MPS.

I should add, while I am pretty clueless about synth-y stuff, I have been doing audio work for 10 years and am not as dumb as I sound. But the question is, for someone like me, who sees MSF and MPS as virtually identical (I learned MPS a year ago), would MSF be worthwhile?

Thanks.

...actually, glad you mentioned this, I have exactly the same question...thoughts?

It's completly modular (like Uhe Zebra for excample) more generators ( wavetable, additive, FM, Sampler, string, resonator, drum sampler)

You should "update" for sure !
Msf is a beast like Mxxx.
I will try to make it shorter, Msf is so deep.
First: per voices modulations and a large number of audio modules per voices.
Second: a lot of high quality modules:
Resonator, sampler, modal filters, wavetable, oscillator waveshaper, audio rate modulation, Mpe, mxxx inside the fx section....
Third: can't list all, it's too long.
I use it since the beta start and it's my favorite tool with a bright future.
The only thing I need is an zdf analog emulation filter ( some nice free dsp code already exists, if one day, Vojtech find some times to implement them...) I could uninstall all my others synthesizers and keep only Msf.
I add: for an audio manipulator like you, the sampler could unlock a lot of crazy possibilities.
Msf is a bargain.
High quality synth with a crazy road map.
Thanks Meldaproduction

Wow. Well for the current upgrade price from MPS I guess I would be stupid not to bite.

@whywhy, “time” seems to be Vojtech’s scarcest resource, reading from interviews, but I have read that many updates are coming in the future for MSF.

I wonder if the coming significant upgrades (modules) for MSF are going to require separate purchase for licensees of MSF. You never know.

If you have any melda already, there should be a VERY generous upgrade price in your account.. Mine was practically free

if you have to ask, then you shouldn't

Yes this is what I´m missing aswell... I exclusivly used MSF for 5-6 months in my productions and when I mixed up the workflow a little bit by re-introducing my other synths again (Hive, Bazille, Sylenth, ZebraHZ) I was amazed by their musically sounding filters... :o

MSF is a beast an it gets better and better from update to update... and yes I also agree, this could be (or actually is  ) the synth that makes all others obsolete. THE ONLY weakness of this synth (in my opinion) is the "too clean" sound of the filters.

Nowadays I prefer MSF over ZebraHZ, but with envy I look over to the "u-he camp" with the Diva Filters inside of Zebra...

What is ZebraHZ?
I mean is it any different to the standard Zebra?

ZebraHZ is a special version (Hans Zimmer version) that has Diva filters and some other added features--it is an additional $100 IIRC.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

Did you try the analog knob in the filters? But screw it up to 12% max.

Yes, I played a lot with MTurbo Filter and therefore with the Analog Knob. The Analog Knob seems to work sometimes but more often the behaviour is not what i want. And it seems to change the amplitude response over the frequency spectrum when using it above 15% (or as you said 12%). The lower the Cutoff Frequency gets, the lower the amplitude of the singnal becomes. It´s almost like the behaviour of a LowPass-Gate. Not the best behaviour for a bass sound in my opinion.

I would love to say, that this Filters are the bomb and their sound is like the best Filters I have ever heard... but in this case I need to take my fanboy hat off for a second and listen and compare to other amazing soft-synths on the market and must say, that there needs to be some improvement in the Filter Department of MSF.

Sorry Vojtech for discussing non-Melda VSTs on this Forum. :x

ZebraHZ is a custom design of Zebra for Hans Zimmer and his Team of Sounddesigner. He wanted the Filters of Diva inside of Zebra (soooo amazing :o ). He also wanted more MSEGs (not sure at the moment if this is in the public release of ZebraHZ yet :dog: ) and on every lane there is a per voice compressor at the end now. There is also a new Resonator Effect (Moog emulation) which is the most amazing tool for creating choirs. And recently Hans wanted to have the double amount of combfilters and more of those sweet Resonators for a soundtrack of an upcoming movie... so ZebraHZ got another update. 8)

And of course there are a ton of preset-leftovers and used sounds that where used in "Inception" and "The Dark Knight Rises"... All made by the sounddesigner Howard Scarr. Former employee of Hans Zimmer and now sounddesigner at u-he headquarters.

I like MSF's per-voice modulations and MPE support. :)
