20th track from my upcoming double CD "2020"
Still going through a rather odd phase. Decided against over producing this one and kept it simple. Kind of a laid back country tune.
Ditto
Whatever you say
He'll say the same
It's all in his name
That's why they call him Ditto
Whatever you do
He'll do the same
It's all in his name
That's why they call him Ditto
He can't help himself
He was born that way
The words that you speak
The same words he'll say
Whatever you think
He'll think the same
It's all in his name
That's why they call him Ditto
Instrumental Break
Repeat Bridge
Whatever you want
He'll want the same
It's all in his name
That's why they call him Ditto

21st track from my upcoming double CD "2020" and March KVR song contest entry.
Hold On To Your Guns
We knew the day it was a coming
The warning signs were there
And now our world she is a running
Now's not the time to despair
Hold on to your guns
There's an invasion brewing
They've come
From the future
Hold on to your guns
The natives they are stewing
Ray guns
You'll need a suture
Hold on to your guns
Hold on to your guns
The buildings fall the buildings tumble
There's shooting all around
And in retreat our lives they crumble
Our fear as loud as the sound
Repeat Chorus
There's only one thing we can do
Go back in time and make it new
Instrumental Break
Repeat Chorus

Guns..
The intro makes it interesting, although at 37 seconds, a little too long for me.
The bridge was good; you are the master of a good bridge : )
Guitar solo, yay! Nice.
Would be nice to know the meaning behind it.
2:58, wow, unexpected but very nice.
Ditto
I like the space you create, its a simple arrangement, not cluttered but good.
Some bits actually reminded me of Ry Cooder.
Good job on both songs, well done.

The meaning behind "Guns" is explained in the Submissions for the March Song Contest in this very sub forum. The intro was meant to provide context. And if you're not familiar with the movie it was taken from, yeah, I guess it could seem a little long.Bansaw wrote: Wed Mar 04, 2020 7:51 pm Guns..

As for "Ditto", Ry Cooder, believe it or not, I've never heard any of his work. I guess I'll have to go check him out.
Thanks for the listen and the feedback. Much appreciated.

wagtunes,
Thank you for the reviews! Now listening to 'Hold On to Your Guns' (I've learned in life it often pays off to be tenacious): if you recorded this very recently, I'm guessing there might be a connection to the coronavirus? Or just those pesky space aliens. My wife often watches "Ancient Aliens": sometimes it is absurd, and other times rather interesting. I vaguely remember watching the movie (from your sound-clip, "War of the Worlds" the original? Haven't seen it in eons.) as a child and being frightened by it. Kind of sounds like Orson Wells, but not sure. I could easily picture E.L.O. (a compliment) doing this song with the orchestral items (strings) and piano. Sounds rather majestic around 3:00 onward. I like all of the melodies. Nice song!

wagtunes,
"Mannequin": Yes, this sounds very 80's, which is plenty fine by me. Trippy intro. I'm guessing these are Vocaloid vocals: they work pretty well in this song. I guess mannequins would be far easier to acquire (especially in the 80's) than "friendly" robots. Now we know wagtunes has a mannequin fetish?
Shades of West-World, but rather static (the mannequins, not the music)? OK, enough mannequin jokes...maybe. I think it was well done, I like it. Synth pop that I wouldn't be shocked to hear on the radio in the 80's. I like all of the melodies per usual. Stiff upper lip.....and lower lip....on the mannequin. Cheers!

22nd track from my upcoming double CD "2020"
Kind of a disco-y thing here though I'm sure my "fans" will tell me it's not disco. But then for them to do that, they'd actually have to comment on the music and, well, we all know they can't do that. Quite a conundrum.
Anyway, I digress. I really like the vocals on this one. I went the heavy reverb, blend them in with the backing track route which I am sure will invite lots of heavy criticism. Well, I like the way it sounds. In fact, this is probably one of my favorite productions as it turned out exactly the way I wanted it. Nothing was left to chance. Everything was carefully planned and executed.
So, without further ado, here you go. All criticisms are welcome and more than expected. Conventionally speaking, this one isn't pretty.
Say It Again
I must have missed it the first time
You were talking too low
I must have missed it the first time
You were talking too slow
Say it again
Say it again
I love to hear it now and then
Hearing the words
Out of your mouth
That's what this love of ours is all about
Say it again
Say it again
Usually I get the meaning
Of the things that you say
Usually I get the meaning
Did not get it today
Repeat Chorus
Instrumental Break
Repeat Chorus
Maybe next time I won't miss it
We'll be on the same page
Maybe next time I won't miss it
Then we can talk love for days
Repeat Chorus
Outro

Can I infer from this you’ve made 22 tracks this year already?
That’s averaging around 2 per week. Impressive rate of production indeed.
"I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms"
"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"

Actually, I started this CD on 12/14/2019 and 3 of the 22 songs were completed in 2019.Mushy Mushy wrote: Sat Mar 07, 2020 3:15 pm Can I infer from this you’ve made 22 tracks this year already? That’s averaging around 2 per week. Impressive rate of production indeed.

This song has a really nice vibe.
Like the "Oohs" after say it again in the chorus.
0:27 interesting chord change
Sax is OK, would be nice to hear it punch through a little more with perhaps some saturation on it to make it rasp more.
Overall, great job... again.

The sax on Say it Again sounds superb. What did you use for that?

Thanks for the listen and the feedback, as always. The sax? Yeah, I really didn't do much with it. I could have gone all crazy with the articulations and processing but I didn't really want any one thing to stand out, which is why I processed the vocals the way I did. I was going for a very homogeneous, kind of, milk shake sound here. I think if the sax had more bite, rasp, whatever you want to call it, it would have stuck out like a sore thumb. In fact, you'll notice there are no guitar leads or guitars in general as they tend to stick out in a mix. The strings were even mixed down low on the last chorus. I could probably do a completely different mix on this one but I'm not sure it would make it better.Bansaw wrote: Sat Mar 07, 2020 3:36 pm This song has a really nice vibe.

Yeah, that's the Warp IV library. Expensive as hell but worth every penny.Mushy Mushy wrote: Sat Mar 07, 2020 3:38 pm The sax on Say it Again sounds superb. What did you use for that?
