Brand-new Mulab/Mux user—StepSeq questions!

Wow, this is a REALLY fascinating bunch of new tools—THANK YOU!
I've so far spent most of my first few days just messing around with the amazing Step Seq/Arp, both in and out of Mulab, and searching for more info on how to get the most from it. Three main questions so far:
1. Is there a way to use the vst version so the transpose and arp menus aren't greyed out?
2. Anybody willing to share some examples of more advanced uses of it, such as how to set up one S Seq to drive another as suggested in the Manual, or just some creative ways to use all the lane and mod features that aren't used in any presets or demos I've so far found? I'd be really interested to see ANY example projects or Mux patches that use it, but haven't found any so far…
3. Any suggestions on ways to sequence pattern switching? I tried adding C -1 and C#-1 to the piano-roll track to no avail, but could easily be doing something wrong…
Many TIA!

Oh yeah… Is there a way to record the MIDI out as played from the Step Seq inside Mulab, including any and all offsets, arps, transpositions, and other settings?

Ah…I see that there is; works well:)David wrote: Sun Mar 08, 2020 10:22 pm Oh yeah… Is there a way to record the MIDI out as played from the Step Seq inside Mulab, including any and all offsets, arps, transpositions, and other settings?
From the docs—
Event Recorder
When switched on, the event recorder records the incoming events into a new sequence. The event recorder is synced to the main record button in the transport panel. So when the event recorder is enabled and you start recording, all incoming events are recorded and when stopping recording, a new sequence is created. When switching the event recorder off while recording, you can temporarily mute recording the incoming events, but recording mode stands by until the main record button in the transport panel is hit again. Only when the main record button in the transport panel is switched off, then the event recording is finished and a new sequence is created. The target module of the new recording is the first module after the event recorder itself because that way when playing back the recorded sequence it will sound the same as before.
A typical example: Insert an arpeggiator in rack slot 1, an event recorder in slot 2 and a synth in slot 3. Now switch off the event recorder so it's only bypassing events. Setup the arp as you want. Now when you want to record the arp in a real sequence, switch on the event recorder, hit record in the transport and record as long as you want, then stop recording. A new sequence part with the rendered arp is added to the composition.

Not sure what you mean, pls elaborate.David wrote: Sun Mar 08, 2020 9:22 pm 1. Is there a way to use the vst version so the transpose and arp menus aren't greyed out?
You can indeed switch patterns using the lowest notes on the MIDI keyb, ie. starting at note number 0.3. Any suggestions on ways to sequence pattern switching? I tried adding C -1 and C#-1 to the piano-roll track to no avail, but could easily be doing something wrong…
Doublechecked it, works fine here.
Pls elaborate on what you encounter.

No matter where I load the Mux version of the StepSeq (in or out of MuLab), it comes up with the transpose and arp menus greyed out, like this:

Is there any way to access the other arp options in the Mux version?
Will try again and report; thanks—LOVING my new toys!mutools wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2020 11:29 amYou can indeed switch patterns using the lowest notes on the MIDI keyb, ie. starting at note number 0.3. I assume you have enabled "Pattern Notes = Select & Play" in the Step Sequencer -> Options -> Properties. When that's switched on then when receiving a note that selects a pattern then this note will not only select the pattern but also immediately play the pattern. This mode is not compatible with Auto Transpose or any Arpergiator mode.David wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2020 5:56 pm No matter where I load the Mux version of the StepSeq (in or out of MuLab), it comes up with the transpose and arp menus greyed out

And I'm also getting the pattern switching to work now, dunno what I missed before…
Btw, is there a short-cut to bring the playhead back to the start without having to step backwards?
And I seem to recall seeing a switch to close or hide/un-hide all open device panels, but can't find it now; did I dream that?

You mean in MuLab?David wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2020 7:02 pm is there a short-cut to bring the playhead back to the start without having to step backwards?
Shift+click the rewind button.
Also see the "Standard Rewind-Forward = Fast" preference.
And the "Goto Composition Start" function shortcut.
Maybe the "Close All Module Editors" function shortcut is what you want? And I seem to recall seeing a switch to close or hide/un-hide all open device panels, but can't find it now; did I dream that?

Also, I'm still trying to get one Step Seq to modulate another one, but getting nowhere. Got a screen shot of how that can be set up?
Thanks again for your help—MUCH appreciated:)

Cool! Where to find these function shortcuts? Never mind—found 'em!mutools wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2020 7:13 pmYou mean in MuLab?David wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2020 7:02 pm is there a short-cut to bring the playhead back to the start without having to step backwards?

…or in fact, how to get the Step Seq's modulation lanes to target ANYthing! No doubt I'm still not thinking in "Mu":)David wrote: Mon Mar 09, 2020 7:20 pm Also, I'm still trying to get one Step Seq to modulate another one, but getting nowhere. Got a screen shot of how that can be set up?

Found a really GREAT example, in the User Library, here:David wrote: Sun Mar 08, 2020 9:22 pm Wow, this is a REALLY fascinating bunch of new tools—THANK YOU!

Besides being a fascinating collection of Mux "Synths with Presets", each one includes 2 linked Step Seq's one of which is wired up to 5 face-plate randomizers that reset transposition, and 4 other modulatable parameters for the sequence, so a new one with a click:)
Plus, I found it really easy to swap in a vst in place of the Mux polysynth to REALLY point these randomizable Step Seq's at a "synth with presets", in the traditional sense—excellent!:)
MANY thanks to Bibz1st—brilliant stuff, most enjoyable as well as instructive!

That made me look at that synth mux again and noticed graphic issues to do with the vertical sliders mainly.
Thought it may be because I wasnt on the very latest version, updated but that didnt help, tried upgrading the whole of that particular folder using the option in the tools menu, that didnt help either.
I havent played around much with new the GUI editing so maybe Im missing something so if someone can point me in the right direction.....
