Hello smart synth users,
I am a long-time recording engineer who is a total newbie at softsynths. I have some experience with hardware synths - mostly eurorack modular stuff. I have been playing around with the Zebra demo (which I will definitely buy soon), but I can't figure out how to do something which I often do in the modular world. Perhaps you can help me?

I am wanting to have Zebra playing an arpeggiated bass line, which it does nicely by following the chords I have in a quantized midi track. However, I want the timing of the arpeggio to follow the kick drum (which was played by a live drummer). How do I do this in Zebra? Basically I want either to trigger the envelope or the start of the arpeggio from an external track (midi or audio, either one) - much like side-chaining a compressor, only I want to ping the synth.

Any thoughts on how to approach this?
Any help is appreciated!
Thanks

You cannot trigger envelopes in Zebra, as far as I know. Unless you use some sort of audio to MIDI conversion before the plugin, perhaps?

Sounds like a job for Zebrify, that's the FX version of Zebra2 and it's installed along with the main synth.
I'll try it later, should be possible.

Hi lathqe,
just tried it, and indeed you can do it with Zebrify instead of Zebra2.
Zebrify has an envelope detector/follower whose output you can then use as envelope for oscillator volume and for filter cutoff. You can basically design your synth sound in Zebrify and have your kick drum trigger it, i.e. open the osc volume and the filter cutoff and whatever else the sound needs.
Just put Zebrify as an FX on the track with the kick drum and take it from there.

EDIT: You'd need to send your MIDI notes to it somehow, most DAWs have a way to send MIDI from a MIDI track to an FX plugin on another channel, I'm sure your DAW can do that too.
