Keyboard splits in MSF/MPS

And is it possible to create crossfading splits as in Omnisphere?

Thank you! Too bad about no crossfading; it can be an amazingly lovely thing, morphing between voices via keyboard tracking (notes), velocity or with a controller…

Altho I guess the key to what Omnisphere does is that it's using multiple patches in layers, not just different oscillators/generators. Layering multiple MSF or MPS patches (by running multiple instances in the FX grid—no other way, is there?) and setting different key ranges for them isn't an option, is it?

You can do this. Just add MSF or MPS into the FX grid and right click. From there set the midi key ranges. I just tried it and it seemed to work. Of course if I was making something from scratch I'd do it using the generator, but if you already have a patch you like it is possible to just load up MSF in the FX tab.

I guess one could achieve all sorts of interesting results using key scaling to modulate mixer levels on multiple gen grid columns with different transformation curves drawn in. Or maybe better, use Ratios.

And use Modulars to load different gen-grid presets you've saved for the column "layers"… So, basically, as usual, sure, you can do pretty much ANYthing you want with MSF:)

The problem is the creation of exact crossfades in the keyrange. One would have to automate vol. of a MSF instance via key mod. and draw a transformation curve. But the transformation curve shows only a percentage. (@ Melda: what about to display a keyboard in the transformations screen? Or a seperate screen for the key mod?)

Also, you never have the keyrange of several modules in view at the same time, like here with Omnisphere or other good synths.

It is possible, but fiddly.

I also seem to remember that you can use modulation source key 1, 2, 3 etc., where you can probably predefine the range. Unfortunately I can't try that right now.

Perhaps in the future there will be another MSoundFactory edition, that would allow this, but for now, no time I'm afraid.
