Just upgraded this. Loved the old v3 interface but it was a bit small. Good to have both.

I also upgraded Filterstation2 too. :hyper:

Good to see Chris and Adam doing it for the kids again.

Is it capable of pretty/beautiful sorts of chorusing, shimmer, and ambient effects, or is it really only suitable for more experimental, harsh/atonal sorts of effects?

(I've been creating those kinds of effects through constructed routings in the DAW, which allows the most flexibility: auxes with pitch shifter, reverb, chorus, eq, other effects, feeding back into themselves, etc....I was wondering if this plugin could achieve all that in one plugin, with similar flexibility...But so far all the demos I hear are more on the harsh side, not suited to the kind of music I am working on right now....although who knows? I might find a use for it in other projects)

I like doing similar things with sounds and I recently stumbled upon KiloHearts Snap Heaps with it's pitch shifter and reverb and delays and the way you can route and modulate all withing a single plugin, I knew I had found what was missing in life.

So this is on sale at PB for $24.99.
Is it worth it, is it unique?

I never use it anymore. It distorts in a to my taste most unpleasant cheap sounding manner way too easily when you use some feedback and the modulation isn't all that (yeah yeah, you can skew the waveform of the LFOs a bit but so many other devs offer way more exciting stuff). They even took away the random modulation in this latest version so the upgrade from 3 to 4 is missing some flexibility from the previous incarnation. More interesting alternatives cost quite a bit more though, so as so many of the Audio Damage products it's as I see it used and praised by those who cannot afford much better yet some of us abondon most of their products once we take the plunge and invest in something better. There are exceptions where Audio Damage have come up with something quite wonderfu, I myself don't consider Discord among those exceptions.

There are some free granular delays out there, I'd honestly recomend to do a search to try out a few of those if they still can be used in whatever DAW you're using and learn what they do - then if you're sure you're starting to miss something that you suspect commercial plugins might offer start looking at alternatives. Also if you're just looking generally for granular plugins and not specifically granular delays have a look at some free options and explore those til you start feeling like you want more and have a certain knowledge of what this more could be so you know what to look for in commercial plugins.

You may offcourse feel completely otherwise on this, sorry if I chose the wrong words somehow. Also some free options may only be 32-bit which may or may not be a hindrance.

A list of free granular plugins, at least Argotlunar 2 is avilable as 64-bit: https://bedroomproducersblog.com/2012/0 ... u-plugins/

So sorry if anyone thinks I gave terrible advice. Play around with the feedback in Discord 4 and feel free to disagree with me that it easily gets out of control in all the wrong ways while sounding horribly cheap as it distorts when trying to make sounds ring out for a bit.

If you want unique for a low price I suspect the Glitchmachines plugins when they're on offer at insane prices might be interesting to you. They have an FX plugin called Convex that as most of their plugins have quite often been on sale for plus minus 90% off, I would think they will continue to go on crazy sales now and then but offcours there's no guarantee. Other plugins of theirs go more into depth with granular mangling, but you have to load your samples into them instead of doing live FX. Disclaimer: I don't own any of their plugins, I've just been fascinated by videos and video reviews on them of which you should find a few on YouTube. Sorry if there's any remaining typos.

Wow! Thanks Gone soft, what a great reply, really appreciate it.
I’m off to check out your recommendations:)

I'd give Unfiltered Audios Fault a spin too. Doesn't have the reverb but it has pitch and frequency shifting, delay and a feedback matrix that'll make your head spin. :) And UAs regular modulation craziness too. Comes up very often in Plugin Alliance sales for $29 or so.

Not mentioned as much, but their iOS apps are really good, and the iOS version of Discord is no exception.
