it did not phone home.
the issue was that they deleted unrelated files from your computer if they thought any of the tone2 software was suspicious. so...lets say someone installed the free firebird (which i believe was when they introduced this policy)...during installation the installer would scour your computer looking for other tone2 products and check to see if they were legit...if for any reason it "detected" something...it would delete those files...which had nothing to do with firebird....and which you didnt grant the installer permission to even access, let alone modify or delete.
so basically people were mad at tone2 for releasing the free firebird as a honeypot malware.

Ah, you're right. I've never installed them on an offline computer and didn't realize it was just doing the C/R in the background.rasmusklump wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 3:59 pmNO!Dozius wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 1:57 pm https://karmafx.net/ -> watermarked

TBH, I find dongles much more annoying than any online check ( don't have a issue with those at all). I'm in the process of installing a new laptop ATM, and, I'm seriously considering leaving the dongle protected stuff away for that laptop. Even though I own a considerable amount of iLok proteced plugins, and some eLicenser plugins and hosts. It's really annoying to have those few USB ports blocked, or to have to use a hub.
If only those vendors could offer iLok cloud protection...

So what are you doing in this thread then ?
Isn't this the question you ask in threads about greedy companies that want to refuse authorisation to products one have bought ? ?

I just wanted to say thanks for this thread. I am now strongly looking for simple serial/keyfile protections when I buy. It was nice to check the list after seeing ANA 2 was on sale and find out it was an offline license transfer. I would not have purchased it otherwise. The problem is that if this matters to you it's very hard to find current info on dev's license methods. Some developers used to be ilok but no longer. Some used to be simple serial but are now C/R or ilok. It's even challenging to find clear info on the dev's own site since they will have info on their old methods as well as the new.

Yes I agree. It is sometimes very difficult to know what exactly the protection is and is it really offline when you need to reinstall it again (say on a different computer)?
So that I thought to make this modest list and rely on the members here for info. Of course the discussion is very useful also to know which info is still valid or not
Although I couldn't sell my NI Maschine/Komplete, I'm relying more on synths/instruments that have serial/keyfile authorisation. I also depends mostly on DAWs that have offline authorisations (Bitwig and FL Studio, of course one of them is powerful enough to be used alone! But I'm more comfortable with Bitwig). I think Ableton Live has also an option to download offline keyfile? Anyway, I can't put a list of DAWs with the instruments/synths, so it would be nice if someone can do threads for DAWs and Effects that can use serial/keyfile and can be reinstalled offline

AudioSpillage uses serial
http://www.audiospillage.com/index.html
Inear Display - is either serial or no copy protection. Can't recall but I know it was simple.

And to the question above, KarmaFX is a watermarked installer. Just install and go.
