using waveform i have a track that when adding a kontakt (or play) software there is a delay between my playing on my keyboard and the sound coming out ,ONLY on this song .
If i load another song I am recording there is no delay
this has happened before ,any ideas why this should be?
Tried loading another instance of the track as a new archive but the problem persists

Could it be that the preset in Kontackt is hogging CPU on this particular track? Open up the CPU Usage window ( Icon is on top right of the Waveform GUI ) and you will see the latency reported by the plugin.

Do you have any in the Edit that are introducing latency? Open the CPU resource window to see a list of all the plugins and see if any report latency.

@dRowAudio Are there any plans to implement PDC in the near future? Thanks.

Wait... it doesn’t have it?

I think it is not properly implemented in complex racks where there is a lot of routing and for what should be minor setups like parallel bus compression for example. I understand that this is a complex thing to fix tho. Iirc Bigwig has a timeshift plugin which can fix this in some situations, but with songs with multiple routing and plugins I can imagine this could be a nightmare to even begin to work on. Maybe I just need to invest in a more powerful workstation? Anyway I'm sure Dave will chirp in to update us on his take on all of this.

Thanks for the info, I'll wait for his answer.

Waveform does have PDC. There are only some edge cases where this breaks down such as processing several plugins in parallel that have different latency or when you have sends that go though sends on different tracks etc. In 99% of cases you won't see this.

I am working on it but it involves completely redesigning the audio playback graph which will also provide us with the ability to create new features in the future such as better multi-threaded processing and multi-channel support.

This would take several months to do if it was the only thing on my plate though so don't expect this quickly.
Please remember that PDC has worked how it currently does in Waveform/Tracktion for nearly 20 years and lots of music has been made with it in that time.

@drow Thank you for your detailed response. For now as you say the other 99% of cases that I need PDC for I'm extremely happy. I do have workarounds to solve the phasing issues that I have using parallel sends e.g bouncing these tracks as audio and realigning the transients on the timeline.
No rush Dave,. I'm sure you will get it sorted in due time

Thanks. It's worth us taking our time to get this right. It will be worth the wait.
