Wow, Real Time too, cheaper than imitone, and with more stuff?
Anyway, almost every single big DAW has audio to midi.
What do they in Bitwig wait for?
They clearly aim to future oriented features (grid, touchscreen support, etc), innovation, evolution.
I've read the Ableton vs Bitwig comparison in Slant: https://www.slant.co/versus/6424/6436/~ ... wig-studio
In the list of Pros for Ableton they wrote:
"Minimum skeuomorphism
Skeuomorphism is described as retaining antiquated aesthetic features on an updated version of a device. For DAWs, this happens when an interface is littered with analog nobs, wires, and other things that are reminiscent of older technology. While this can be considered a stylistic choice for some DAWs, it tends to block progress towards better practices in music production."
I mean, I still prefer the old school knobs of reason than the abstract-art graphics of Ableton. At least they're more intuitive to use.
But I also wish innovative ways of controlling instruments, which can open the door to creative ideas which would otherwise not come.
Like the Seaboard, the Arché Touche, and more experimental stuff with movement, light etc.
And audio to midi, specially if in real time, is a new glorious way to interact with instruments.
Even for people who play keyboard or other instruments very well, voice to midi is a very powerful tool of creation, voice is the primordial instrument...
And even more for people like me, who have ideas and can't put them into form with a keyboard so well.
I'm totally flashed by these two real time plugins.
Do you receive the price alerts via newsletter from the publishers?

I was not aware of this.
Could you elaborate?
Besides, when you say melody, do you mean that only the pitch parameters are detected and converted to midi?
Or do you mean all aspects of a melody, like dynamics, duration and volume of notes, etc.
Btw, could you guys briefly summon me on the names of the different qualities of a note which can potentially be converted to midi, besides loudness, pitch and duration?

I think it's currently on sale, from the normal price of $150. It came out just a month ago and I don't think it will be $29 soon, like CLA Hub - another pretty new(ish) plugin - was never $29 (the lowest it's been was $39 I think).Kalamata Kid wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2020 7:41 pm What has been the lowest price for Ovox so far?
I'll just wait for the $29 sale.

Thanks for chiming in.
I'll wait for the $39 price.
Not in a rush.
Perhaps Black Friday eight months away.

They work on & add stuff they think it's more important, or at the very list more aligned with their vision for what Bitwig is.KleinAberFein wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2020 7:50 pmAnyway, almost every single big DAW has audio to midi. What do they in Bitwig wait for?
This is a pretty ridiculous site, not to mention with outdated, very biased / subjective info presented as if it was a fact. Just read the pros & cons for both Live and BitwigKleinAberFein wrote: Tue Mar 24, 2020 7:50 pmI've read the Ableton vs Bitwig comparison in Slant: https://www.slant.co/versus/6424/6436/~ ... wig-studio

Okay, it's been a while since I went down this rabbithole, and @antic604's mention of Reason made me curious since I recently picked up Reason to use primarily for Reason Rack.
Tested:
Reason 11.2 Bounce > Midi
Melodyne analysis then Save as Midi
MTuner Midi out (with many attempts to tweak the detection settings to be accurate)
Ovox Midi out (with many attempts to tweak the detection settings and scale settings to be accurate)
Live 10.1 Convert Melody to Midi
Live 10.1 Convert Melody to Midi
And one more VST I won't name, because reasons
Track fragment tested: The intro melody part in "Drugs" by 13 x Rezz. This is a softball test. Nice loud pluck, slow melody in D Phrygian b4. With a very quiet, low pad on the bottom playing three simple scale tones that *imply* a simple 1 - 4 - 7 chord progression under the melody pluck.
Conclusion:
Same as last time I went down this rabbithole. They ALL suck horribly. Live 10.1 Convert Melody to MIDI is the least sucky of the bunch but still VERY sucky. All the others were ridiculously suck. Like, total suck. Terribad. Useless.
I would expect a halfway decent detection/conversion algorithm to possibly confuse the 1, b4, or b7 pad tones for the actual melody tones, plunking down either/or at any given point. But nope. All the algorithms were coming up with crazy shit that had nothing at all to do with the original melody tones or rhythm.
At the end of the day you can get the job done WAY faster just sounding the notes out by ear. Melody AND chords. All of these tools are laughably horribad and will just make you waste time. Reason's attempt was among the craziest and most useless of the bunch.
Ovox is actually pretty good for incredibly slow, simple VOCAL melodies, but you have to set up the detection parameters correctly and it helps to know the key you're actually singing in.
