Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone more experienced with Hive might be able to suggest an approach to achieve something like this bass wub sound from an AHEE tutorial:

It uses Serum's "FM (from B)" option to feed the signal from one oscillator into a another.

As far as I can tell, there is nothing similar in Hive.

I spent some time trying different approaches using MOD envelopes for wave table sweeps, but (mostly likely due to my inexperience), I haven't really been any to get anywhere close to it.

If anyone has any suggestions, It would be greatly appreciated. :)

Thanks!

Hey there, I scratched out a quick preset for you to take a look at that should answer some of your question -- download the attachment.

NOTE: I have a number of things deactivated within the preset (ModMatrix slots 3, 4 and 5, Osc 2, and FX). I tried to keep only the most basic things active upon loading the preset, to compare to the earliest portions of the Serum video.

Anyway, the key thing to note here is how to use MultiTables, as I used in Wavetable 1. The selected Wavetable is FM Matrix, which is a 2-OP FM wavetable. Compare this to the early/basic sound of the Serum patch in the video (I'm not going to get into FM and ratio selection, since that's a bit much for the moment). May be worth time to study the manual on wavetable manipulation, very interesting stuff.

Another note: some of the modulation shenanigans are there simply to match closer to the Serum sound (eg, ModMatrix Slot 1 selections of Expanded and Fast Slew Limiting). Not strictly necessary, just found that Serum's default LFO matches closer to the settings I placed in on ModMatrix 1.

EDIT: Correct file should be there now.

KBS,

I just tried out and preset and it is really nice! I was surprised by how simple the preset was to achieve the basic sound.I will definitely take some time to read more about the wavetable manipulation in the manual. I've read various sections as I am using them, but not about that. I also suspected that the "FM" set of wavetables was called "FM" for a reason, but wasn't really sure how to use them as such, so this is a nice example of that.

Thanks again for the preset and suggestions! I appreciate it.

Cheers,
Keith
