[SOLVED] How to install a .mproduct file ?

Sorry, but what [menu] button where?

I created a directory on my sample drive (D:\SynthSounds\MeldaProduction). I copied the MSoundFactoryEssentials.mproduct file into that directory. I set the Root field in Settings to D:\SynthSounds\MeldaProduction.

Now what? How do I load something into the sampler from the essentials content? I navigate to the D:\SynthSounds\MeldaProduction directory but nothing shows up in the right hand panel.

Thanks for any guidance.

There should be a menu button on the toolbar (top right) where you can install the product. Are you on the latest version?

The thing is that the mproduct file is a (temporary) installer and it doesn't matter where it is (desktop is fine). If you have already set your sample path in settings, then Menu > Install product, the browser is not asking you where you want to put the samples, but is asking you where the mproduct file is .
MSF than extracts the samples to your already defined sample location (other non sample stuff inside the mproduct file like presets etc will be extracted to Melda's usual locations).
After that you can delete the mproduct file as with any usual 'installer', unless you want to stash it as a backup...I don't bother with that because my sample drives and Melda presets etc get backed up anyway. Hope that all makes sense..it had me stumped at first.

It's also possible to jump directly to the [Menu] option as it will tell you to set the sample path first if not set.

OK, I installed the most recent version, and everything worked like a charm. Got an impressive number of files in an impressive number of categories.

Unfortunately, I'm seriously underwhelmed by the quality. While there are some pretty cool non-mulitsample files of an effects nature, the multisampled material is seriously second-rate IMO. I did not find a single sustained-type sound that is looped. Want a cello to incorporate into a pad? Don't expect to use the one in Essentials.

Also, the multisample consistency is far from adequate. Check out the Woodwinds series. One note in the upper registers sounds mostly like a flute and the one above it sounds way more like a clarinet. This is all but unusable, IMO.

Finally, there is great inconsistency in velocity layers. Some note-ranges have them and some don't. In those that do, the timbre differences make no sense - different velocity ranges often sound like a completely different audio source.

Maybe it's just me, but I honestly don't think this collection is anywhere close to the quality that MSF deserves, it being so excellent in so many other ways.

Want to see how it can be done properly? Check out Rob Papen Blue 2. Its oscillators can play multisamples, and the collection included is a perfect one for combining with synth sound sources. Something alone the lines of the Blue 2 factory sample sets is what MSF needs and deserves. Again ... just IMO.

Can it be possible to convert Blue 2's samples to MSF format ?

I haven't looked to see what the format used by Blue 2 is - I just assumed it would be something that could not be easily appropriated and reused. But even if they were just plain old .wav files, there'd still be a violation of license terms if a sound developer were to use these samples in a sound pack created for MSF.
