I am really enjoying the modulation system employed in the generator section of MSF. The visual feedback, ease of application and, now, the active indicator within the modulation menu are all very helpful and make things more intuitive.
They also create a very addictive workflow.
I find myself disappointed when I move from the generator to the FX tabs and need to change my approach to modulation assignments back to the 'old' way (and 'old' choices). I'd love to see the modulation indicators added to the FX parameters, as well as the drag-and-link system adapted to modulation in general.
I realize that the per-voice modulation sources cannot all be ported to global modulation, but would it be possible to expand the types based on what is available there?
P.S. I'd like to request adding the highlighting for the active mod sources to the external 'per-voice modulation sources' tab.
Thanks Vojtek. Praise Vojtek. :wheee: (we need a beer drinking smilie!)

Thanks!
As for the global mods, I'm afraid everything is different there. It has pros and cons coming from the way these 2 work. As for highlighting, just click on any empty slot and the used ones are highlighted including numbers of use. I cannot add it everywhere, since it takes quite some CPU to calculate current situation and as you know you can enable/disable stuff with globals mods/mps etc., so if would need to be refreshed all the time... not good for your CPU :)

Yes, the generator modulation is a joy to use.
I don't think you can do this using the mod slots or the multi parameters but I was trying to get a delay time to change slightly depending on midi note number but I couldn't find a way to do it, can can sound great with delays just having a bit of time variation on different keys.
There might be a way but I couldn't see how to do it.
Anyway - still loving it, and only even started exploring the FM module yesterday!

The per-note modulator 'Key" assigns MIDI notes (1-128) a range of 0-100%. You could try a combination of that and 'True Random' in combination with changing the setting of the 'Depth' knob within the mod tab.

It would be nice to have for the global modulators the same versatility that there is in the voice modulators. It is essential to have a "mapping" function and a "depth" knob for every parameter the global modulator is assigned. Without this, 8 global modulator for a product like MSoundFactory are not enough.

I wish there was an easier, more direct way to modulate Device parameters, beside opening up MSF as an FX in that grid so a device can run in edit mode with access to the global modulators. It seems like there should be a stock selection of modulators ready and waiting on the Easy Screen window, for easy (drag-n-drop!) routing to any controls that a Device may have. It's a performance interface, right?

Those features are all there, plus more…unless I misunderstand you:

The GModulators have a record function that lets you map any number of parameters to the same mod, or you can do it using a popup list as in the screen grab. Then every selected target can have its own levels, min, max, and even a transform curve you can draw yourself.

Sorry for that. I completely misinterpreted the Modulators. I thought that the "min", "max", and the "transormation shape" was for the "global settings" of the modulators and not for each parameters. That said, we have plenty of modulators...Not to mention that we can open MSF in the fx tab. Sorry, but I'm not still completely in the frattal-Melda frame of mind.

I apologize. Thank you David, thank you Melda!

It DOES take a while; really worth the effort, tho! Enjoy:)

Anyway, I don't know. I have the sensation that you can need more than 8 Modulators slots if you are developing an Instrument and also its interface with the multiparameters and not "only" a sound or controlling one o more FXs (the idea to open MSF as an FX is always possible but I don't like it "stylistically" and I don't know how much efficient it is. Not to mention that this complicates the process).

I'm developing an instrument inspired on the CS-80. I'm in the middle only of the "first line of synthesis" (after the filter envelope) ad I have used two global modulators, one for the PWM of the square wave and the other for selecting the waveforms of the general LFO of the CS-80.

The sensation is that for creating the sound (sound in general) 8 modulators are enough, but if you want to develop also a GUI you may need more!

I hope to be wrong again!

Why not use per-voice modulators for anything you need when building on the Gen grid? Almost all the parameters in every module are available for that. I certainly agree that having more global modulators (16!) would feel better:) I've never yet actually used all 8 tho…

Note that if you need more than 8 when working in the FX grid, you could do everything inside of an MXXX module; there's 16 global modulators there…

For a classic PWM I need a global LFO not a per voice LFO otherwise every voice has its own PWM, they do not sound the same (I could use the per voice LFO if it had the "trigger" menù as the global LFO, but again, I don't know if it has much sense to have a trigger menù in a per voice modulator). For the general LFO in the CS-80, I need a general LFO!

And yes, we have also the MXXX module! This system is so deep. They could write a book on how to fully use is.

I hope that this thread could grow. The modulation in MSF (MXXX and other Melda products ) is very powerful and complex. We need all the informations.

We still have the LFO and Envelopes modules (and other modulators) in the grid, but we can't use them to modulate modules parameters, only the audio signal (and I don't know what other deep things!). On how to use these ones (and when it could be better to use them instead of the other modulators) it could be another good discussion!

We keep alive the thread with new questions and ideas. Thank you!
