Which host, which operating system, which plugin format, which version/revision of Hive?

I quickly checked it with Hive 2.0.1 (rev. 9709) in Reaper, and sync mode works fine.

Just making sure: Have you set the LFO Restart mode to 'sync' (i.e. not 'single' or 'gate')?

I don't have Live installed, but I just tested AU in Ju-X AUHosting and VST/AU in Reaper 64. LFOs in 'sync' Restart mode do not restart with MIDI notes, whatever the LFO Time Base.

in logic X, when i set it to sync it does NOT retrigger upon midi-note on
just as howard says

i.e.: speed is according to the host tempo and the lfo's phase is free running
and not restarting

maybe some setting from within ableton ?
