T2's Sampler.

Has there been any information about what type of upgrade there is suppoed to be for the sampler in the next version?

Is it expected to handle any of the common formats such as Halion, Giga, EXS 24 (or whatever that one is called ).

I'm thinking of getting a propper sampler but wonder if I should hold off a while.

I cannot imagine that this feature will have a high priority. The sampler was a nice add-on when T was released. But - as you said - you can now buy what suits your needs. There are so many different Samplers out there that I doubt, Jules (or Mackie) will waste time & efforts to implement a "full featured" competitor. This would be the case if you speak of importing Halion, Kontakt etc. And even for the purpose of simple wave conversion are solutions on the market (e.g. ExTranslator)

I hope you are right. I still don't like how sfz works (needing this large block of free memory) so I'm hoping that the built in sampler can handle sf2 and it's multi-velocity layering.

I'm itching to use those Natural Sound piano and drum soundfonts, but I haven't figured out how to make my KX drivers for my SB Live work with sf's so I can hear them in T, nor have I been able to load one of those NS sf's into sfz (I always get a memory error).

Anyone know of a less cranky vsti sf player? For free, that is?

Use the DFD loading option with sfz. I only have 128mb of ram and use 2-300mb soundfonts all the time without any trouble.

No issues with large soundfonts (including the NS stuff) with sfz here. In fact, I'd say sfz and sfz+ have been two of my least "cranky" vst's for a long time. My main machine has a gig of memory. I've also had success with an old laptop and 384mb memory but I had to bump the quality down to PR16.

Regarding Tracktions interface, it cold be the most intuitive sampler out there, if it took full use of T. Emagine having another page for the sampler, bussing out to tracks, looking very much like present T, but the ability to edit samples in a large and comfortable interface.

Id by this, if it was a seperate upgrade, allso! Juce?

I'm betting the answer is "no". As these people open up SFZ, and choose the direct-from-disk option and thereby say 'goodbye' to the memory notification thing, I'm sure their cheeks are burning a little bit.

Regarding T2's sampler-- nobody knows. However, I highly doubt that there will be a massive change. Perhaps a rudimentary velocity layering and the ability to import sf2... but beyond that, I wouldn't hold my breath.

Seems I tried DFD with sfz and immediately resulted in crackle city, but I'll give it another shot tonight.

I only have 256 MB RAM on a Win98SE machine (I know, I know, time to invest in a new DAW computer)

Besides DFD, other modes might help, too. There used to be a free Soundfont Librarian that can slice out patches from big soundfonts, unfortunately it's no longer freely-downloadable...

I remember Jules saying he would give Tracktion a good fully featured sampler soon. Of course that was in the good old days when Jules still thought programming a fully featured host from scratch would take no more than 6 months at most
I wouldn't bet on it T2's sampler will even have sf2 support. With sfz for free, why would he?
