Tempo and Swing question

I am very inexperienced with DAW's, but have been able to figure out some basic things with MuTools. However, I am having trouble with two things:

Tempo: I've imported MIDI files and no matter what I do with the tempo setting, it always reverts back to 100 and will not stay at the tempo I set. I've tried all sorts of things: inserting tempo change, using the tempo slider, clicking and typing a new tempo in, editing tempo changes, etc. It never stays.
-How do I permanently adjust the tempo for a MIDI file?

Swing:
I got the piece to swing using the swing dial, but I'd like to only have swing for a portion of the composition.
How can I select only a section and give it swing, while leaving the rest of the composition without it?

I appreciate any advice!

a quick way to do (b) would be to duplicate the sequence and use sequence swing for one of the copies :)

Ok, thanks, but...how do I do that? I can duplicate the sequence fine, but what is "sequence swing?" I have no idea where that is in Mutools, I searched everywhere.

in 'compose window' lower left, you get settings per sequence, and there's swing there too (one of the knobs) i think

The overall-tempo is saved in the midi-file. Right-click the bars-lane (between the play-button and the first track). Then select "Edit tempo changes" and delete the "100"-entry.

For individual swing cut the sequence where you like (right-click the part and select "split"). Then you can select the swing-amount for both parts individually on the bottom of the composer-window (right above the racks) with a dial.

When I import a midi file, the midi tempo is inserted in Mulab at time 0. Thus it remains until you change it or delete it. Right click on the Tempo box and choose Edit Tempo changes. Then either delete or change the initial tempo.

Thanks everyone, that helped a lot! I was able to adjust tempo and swing and got things working properly.
Thanks so much!
