ZDF filters are nothing really special anymore and even not taxing cpu that much (i can run f.e. dozens of them on my old phone in Drambo).
Oh yes, i like the iOS Drambo modular filters. Not the best of the best but very low on cpu, ZDF and i can run 20 in a row while modulate it with an OSC.
Still i would mostly like the P900 filters as FX which are so far my favorite from all i ever used. They really can sing even at full resonance, lots of saturation and modulated with several OSCs.

UAD Moog Filter is pretty damn good, often use it to just fatten up softsynths. The drive is amazing.
For simple filter tasks i mostly use Soundtoys Filterfreak.

Its ok but doesnt sound like Moogs hardware. I tested Moog Sub37 against UAD... huge difference in sound.
And audiorate modulation in software is meh, so far.
Can The Drop do audiorate mod? Might have to demo it again...

In context few ppl will notice much difference between plugs and/or analog hardware, but a good sounding filter is so inspirational to work with.....

If I'm being honest, I go for Drop (or Vult filters in VCV) over most of my Eurorack these days. Quicker to set up for levels and ranges, and quite often they have a wider palette of "sweet spots"..

I tested it against MoogerFooger filter pedal (where it's mostly modelled on). It was close enough for me to sell my MoogerFooger.

Can someone ease break this down a little more? What plugin has what kind of filter? Audibly they sound very different but a bit more information would be great. I just got a new freebie called plasticity that's my new favourite. I can hear why but would like to understand why as well.

What is it you're asking ? What's the difference between all the filter types ? Why you like one over the other ?

I demo'ed The Drop... I dont think it emulates the filters close enough. It's a great plugin but it does not sound the same as the originals. I own a Doepfer Wasp filter, when compared to WSP filter in Drop I can hear what it is trying to emulate, but it is not behaving close enough. It does not give me the goosebumps....

Its surprising that so few developers have nailed the filters they try to emulate.
I do run my projects in 44khz, not sure if that matters....

I just bought that, and it is indeed great. I also bought the UAD OTO Biscuit emulation (also available as a native plugin) and I was using it on a RYTM last night and it’s amazing. You can sequence filter type, cutoff and resonance per step. Fun, and sounds fantastic.

I think you’re comparing Granny Smith apples to Honeycrisp apples. The Phatty line of Moogs don’t sound (I’ve owned the Little Phatty and Sub Phatty) like the more traditional Moog filter that the UAD was modeled after. The Mother 32 sounded closer, IMO, as do the Grandmother and Matriarch.

The audio rate modulation in Legend, RePro, Dune 3 and Reaktor (when run at 88 khz or higher) are very good. Hardware good? Maybe a bit more polite, but sometimes that’s a bonus.

I don’t think it’s necessarily that people don’t notice the difference, but more like they don’t view the difference in a qualitative way. The wild sound of an overdriven analog filter being modulated at audio rates just isn’t for everyone. Most music I hear sounds pretty tame, for the most part. I agree with you, in that when you’re really going for that extra mile, hardware is crucial, but software can cover a lot of ground, and often has abilities that are unmatched in hardware.
