Could you be more specific? All of them work more or less the same, with the same paradigm, so I don´t know what you are talking about. And you sound with a whiff of German supremacism while very conveniently seem to forget that the de facto world standard is Pro Tools, that in your tired analogy must be a pick up truck.Kazi7 wrote: Wed Apr 15, 2020 4:46 pm
And Cakewalk's solution to the problem is in many ways less well-thought out and coherent than the pedantically German designed Cubase, Logic (former Emagic) or Studio One (ex-Steinberg guys). It's like comparing a General Motors car to a German engineered Audi, Mercedes or BMW.
Cakewalk is “dead”?

So this thread is because someone just woke up from a two-year-long coma?
Someone who's eyesight is still so fuzzy from that coma that they cant see the 'Cakewalk by BandLab released!' link at the top of the very page they quoted?
And yet 4 pages later folk are still rehashing exactly the same posts as ever.
Well done, KVR, well done.

An idiot on Set Theory:

Not only that but the join date for KVR is March 2020. Possibly a competitor who hates that Cakewalk is free and still developing?whyterabbyt wrote: Thu Apr 16, 2020 12:14 pm So this thread is because someone just woke up from a two-year-long coma?

Probably not just checked his posts and they are mostly about Fl Studio. I could understand if it was Cubase or Studio One.

Why are people who use another daw so upset by Cakewalk By Bandlab? Perhaps they feel the need to justify spending a fortune on a daw that is no better or even not as good as Cakewalk.

I'm not the slightest surprised. This is kvr after all where I hate other DAWs, I hate ilok, I hate all inds of copy protection. I hate dev's X and Y. I hate the price of this and that. I hate the update. I hate..fill in.williedscarface wrote: Thu Apr 16, 2020 9:11 pm Why are people who use another daw so upset by Cakewalk By Bandlab? I was able to get Cakewalk running in linux/wine. I'm not a coder,
but to me, that result indicates a solid no-frills codebase.
I'm not real happy with the daw needing Bandlab Assistant,
but even that is getting better with each new version,
and is part of the revenue model that allows the daw
to be actively developed, without financial cost to users.
I'd like the option of a paid version that was free of the Assistant,
just a bare installer in the Reaper price range.
but to me, that result indicates a solid no-frills codebase.

Seriously though, don't think it's unjustified to ask those questions. I have no personal stake in the question, just purely academic interest. It's interesting what their strategy is. It's not my main DAW but I have had it installed and updated since it went free, and I occasionally dabble with it. They seem to be doing a good job so far updating it. But Cakewalk has so much baggage and is deeply rooted in the old paradigm, that it just does not seem to be a natural match for the obvious target audience of Bandlab. So it makes you think what their long term goal is.
That said, if one needs a free DAW there is no better option than Cakewalk. After all it's a fully featured pro DAW with long history.

I highly doubt their codebase is solid and no-frills. With so much legacy and considering how buggy Cakewalk has historically been, it's still probably horrible. It will take them a lot more time to fix it.glokraw wrote: Fri Apr 17, 2020 3:06 am I was able to get Cakewalk running in linux/wine. I'm not a coder,

You need the assistant only for installing and updating. I usually remove it afterwards. When I need to update, I just install it again as you would have to do it anyway because the assistant itself needs updating occasionally.
