Possibly played at the wrong speed.
fond memories of him playing some electronic/dance thing at a variety of speeds before giving up and asking the listener to decide what sounded best...
hell, that's the first time i've laughed out loud since I heard the news.
strange thing is though, my first thought was not all the great bands he's broken over the years but all the strange, quirky stuff that hardly set the world alight yet totally shaped my outlook on music. Off the top of my head, stuff like Buttsteak, the LP of astrology inspired songs, Boone Stigall, half man half biscuit, ivor cutler, the eggs ("government administrator"!), the punk west side story stuff, Beat of the Traps(?)...
Anyone else remember him on Desert Island Disks? How he heard Orbisons 'Its Over' on a railway platform one foggy morning and just started crying his eyes out? I think I know how he feels...
